Within the Aprilia camp, there is concern that Jorge Martin will win the world championship before he heads to Yamaha.

Marco Bezzecchi is seemingly unstoppable at this point, having furthered his lead in first place in the championship standings after a winning performance at the United States Grand Prix.

Aprilia secured a one-two in Austin, with Jorge Martin coming in second to stay right behind Bezzecchi in the championship race.

When will be the first race that Marc Marquez beats Marco Bezzecchi?

With the two Aprilia riders separated by just four points, there is concern that Martin could cost Bezzecchi the title this season.

While Aprilia hasn’t come out and picked a side in the intra-team battle, there will be an internal hope that Marco Bezzecchi comes out on top.

Aprilia won’t admit they prefer Marco Bezzecchi winning world championship over Jorge Martin

On the Motorsport Republica podcast, MotoGP reporter Jack Appleyard spoke about the feelings within Aprilia over the tense title fight between Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin.

He noted that while Aprilia would never publicly favour one rider over another, they will be rooting for Bezzecchi to win the title over Martin, as the latter is rumoured to be joining Yamaha next season.

“Although Aprilia would never say it, it’s absolutely obvious to everyone that if one rider in the Aprilia garage is to win the world championship this year, of course, they’re desperately hoping it’s Marco Bezzecchi.

“So then, next year, the number one is still on the Aprilia. The last thing they want is Martin to win it and then take it across to Yamaha, which would be a wild thing at the start of next year.

“They’ll never say it, but of course they want Bez to win the championship… They’re going to give them equal machinery, they’re going to let them fight it out.”

You’re a MotoGP team boss and you can either sign Marco Bezzecchi or Jorge Martin

Jorge Martin’s move to Yamaha could impact title race control within Aprilia

Widespread reports have suggested Martin is set to join Yamaha for the 2027 season, meaning this will be his final season with Aprilia for the time being.

Massimo Rivola has refused to issue Aprilia team orders in either rider’s favour until one of them is mathematically ruled out from winning the championship.

Given how close the gap between Bezzecchi and Martin is, and the form both riders are in, Aprilia may have to pivot from that stance and back one rider, likely Bezzecchi, to become champion.

With Martin set to leave Aprilia, it makes sense for them to back the rider who is going to stay with them beyond this season.
