Jack Miller sends message to Moto2 star Senna Agius after winning home race at Australian Grand Prix

Jack Miller may not have been able to produce a magic result at the Australian Grand Prix, but the home crowd did get to see one of their own claim victory, in Moto2 rider Senna Agius.

Miller looked like he would be in a strong position to finish on the podium or even win at the Australian Grand Prix with a stunning qualifying. He put his Pramac Yamaha third on the grid, marking the first Aussie to start on the front row of his home race since Casey Stoner in 2012.

Stoner was surprised by Miller’s qualifying performance, as the hard tyre seemed to work brilliantly for the Pramac rider. He finished the Sprint race in fourth, missing out on a podium.

The YZR-M1’s lack of pace ultimately let the 30-year-old and his fellow Yamaha riders down, as he crashed out of Sunday’s race while running in sixth. Miller received ‘warnings’ of vibrations before he eventually fell at Siberia corner, marking a heartbreaking end to his home event.

While the home faithful would have been undoubtedly disappointed to see Miller crash in the MotoGP race, they would see an Aussie on the top step over the weekend.

Moto2 star Agius claimed the win in the intermediate class, beating David Alonso by over three seconds for his second win of the season. He had lined up in second, but made an ambitious move for the lead at the first corner.

Agius fended off challenges from Diogo Moreira and Manu Gonzalez to take the win in front of his home crowd. The 20-year-old grabbed his first Moto2 podium at Phillip Island last season, and now he has gone all the way for victory in 2025.

Posting on his Instagram story, Agius shared a picture of him riding his Kalex machine into the pits, with Miller watching on. The Pramac rider responded to him on his Instagram account with: “Flying that flag high!” as he applauded his fellow Aussie’s win.

Is a MotoGP move on the cards for Senna Agius in the future?

Agius currently sits eighth in the Moto2 standings ahead of the final three races of the season. It is a huge step forward from his rookie season, where he finished 18th with one podium.

He has stepped up his game in 2025 with two wins at Silverstone and Phillip Island and four podiums. It was rumoured that Agius was being watched by MotoGP teams for a seat in 2026.

However, that did not come to fruition, with the MotoGP rider market seeing little changes for next season despite a chaotic summer period with the likes of Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta.

With another season in Moto2, the Aussie could be in with a shout for a MotoGP seat in 2027. Agius will certainly be targeting the title next season after a strong sophomore year.
