Senna Agius has been turning heads in the MotoGP world with his impressive performances and skill, and he even caught the attention of Valentino Rossi.

The Australian rider has had a rather unconventional path in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, jumping straight to Moto2 in 2022. After a few difficult years, in 2025, Agius established himself as a strong contender.

He won his first two races last year, including a win on home soil at Phillip Island, and is now considered a championship contender in 2026. Winning last time out at COTA, Agius is grabbing the right attention, and he even left one of MotoGP’s biggest names gobsmacked.

The 20-year-old’s manager, former Ducati MotoGP and WSBK rider Chaz Davies, took Agius to Rossi’s ranch in Tavullia, Italy. He had never raced there before, but the Doctor was immediately impressed.

Valentino Rossi was stunned by Senna Agius’ skill at his ranch

Speaking on the Paddock Pass Podcast, Davies recalled Agius’ experience at the ranch: “I understand his talent for what it is and how adaptable he is. As a quick example, I took him last year to the ranch at Valentino’s.

“He’d never been there before. I’ve been there back in the day, and I know Senna’s a quick flat track rider, but he was… the 100 km race starts. He’s leading it.

“And he was in the top few fastest guys during the race. He ended up crashing during that first stint, but that was the strategy. I’m like, ‘Go there and make a splash and let’s see what happens. At least you’re going to turn some heads.’

“And he did, and he was one of the fastest riders in the race. And Valentino in the evening goes to me at the party, he was like… I won’t share exactly what he said!

“But he was like, ‘Beep. That was super impressive. Beep beep! Senna’s got some skills.’ So, I’ll take it from him.”

Is Senna Agius MotoGP -bound in 2027?

The Aussie’s performances have not gone unnoticed. Agius was on the radar of MotoGP teams in 2026, but no move materialised.

With his form still strong this season, he could be a key figure in the MotoGP rider market. There is a lot of interest in the 20-year-old from multiple manufacturers.

You’re in charge of Yamaha, who are you taking as the 2027 Pramac MotoGP line-up?

Agius could replace fellow Aussie Jack Miller at Pramac Yamaha, with the help of MotoGP’s top brass. If the latter does not want to stay in the premier class, the young Australian could be his natural successor, as the sport needs the country represented on the grid for the Adelaide GP next year.

Agius could also be an option for KTM, with the team leaving their second seat next to Alex Marquez ‘open’. Maverick Vinales was set to land the ride, but now, the Moto2 star could throw a major spanner into the works.
