Carlo Pernat says MotoGP didn’t even look ‘professional’ in Brazilian Grand Prix farce

Carlo Pernat has slammed MotoGP after the Brazilian Grand Prix, as he said it did not look ‘professional’.

MotoGP returned to Brazil for the first time since 2004 for this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna (Goiânia).

What was a hotly anticipated return for MotoGP ended up being a disastrous weekend for the sport and the circuit as they ran into continuous issues throughout the weekend.

On the Saturday, moments before the Moto3 Qualifying was set to get underway, a sinkhole opened on the start and finish straight at the Goiania circuit, which forced the Sprint Race to be heavily delayed.

This was then followed by further track surface issues on Sunday as the tarmac began to break, and the MotoGP race was shortened by eight laps, minutes before the Grand Prix was about to start.

Davide Tardozzi was FUMING over the decision to shorten the Brazilian Grand Prix!

But did MotoGP make the right call? 🤔 Let us know in the comments!

Carlo Pernat shares his opinion on the Brazilian Grand Prix

After the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix, Carlo Pernat shared his thoughts on the event with GPOne, and he was very critical of how the weekend was run.

The Italian believes that it was not run in a ‘professional’ way by MotoGP due to the issues that the Goiania circuit displayed throughout the track action across the weekend.

Pernat said, “It is impossible for a World Championship in 2026 to run on a track in the peak of the rainy season, February and March in Goiania.

“Everyone knows it rains, and on a circuit which was not ready, it should not be possible for a hole, a sinkhole, to open up; it is crazy. It is something that should not exist and has never happened before.

“Then, on top of that, six minutes before the start of the Grand Prix, when everyone is on the grid, race direction, seeing the circuit was giving way, cut eight laps. So, that means they raced with bikes that were not properly set up.

“I mean, it is not professional if you want to make a leap in quality. This is a leap in quality backwards, like a step back.”

MotoGP paddock reacts to the Brazilian Grand Prix issues

On Sunday, when the Brazilian Grand Prix was shortened by 8 laps whilst the riders were sat on the starting grid, it left many shocked and panicking ahead of the race.

Davide Tardozzi was seen raging at Carlos Ezpeleta after the decision was made. Tardozzi discussed the altercation as he said, “It was a shock, because we didn’t know until the last five or six minutes, and, OK, maybe for the organisers to take this decision, there must be a reason.”

After winning the Sprint Race on Saturday, Marc Marquez discussed his anger at the delays across Saturday due to the sinkhole that appeared.

Marquez said, “There was even a moment when I got angry, because it’s super difficult for a driver to connect, disconnect, connect, disconnect. We have our rituals before.”
