Marc Marquez beat Fabio Di Giannantonio to win the Sprint Race at the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix this Saturday, after a sinkhole on the track caused major delays in Goiania.
Di Giannantonio scored pole for the Brazilian GP earlier on Saturday and he produced a tidy start once the Sprint finally got going 75 minutes later than planned. MotoGP even delayed qualifying for the Moto2 race at the Brazilian GP to Sunday due to the hurried track repairs.
A sinkhole emerged on Goiania’s pit straight after MotoGP’s qualifying session in Brazil, and it threatened to force the Sprint to be postponed. Once the Sprint started, Di Giannantonio comfortably kept his satellite Ducati GP26 in the lead before Marquez then came charging.

Factory Ducati star Marquez and fellow front-row starter Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia dropped away from Di Giannantonio in the early stages of the Sprint at the Brazilian GP. But Marquez smelt blood and snatched the lead with three laps to go when Di Giannantonio drifted wide.

Di Giannantonio tried to break away from the field at the start of the Sprint Race, as Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo utilised his sensational qualifying effort to climb from P4 to P2 on the underwhelming V4 YZR-M1. Quartararo quickly passed Bezzecchi and Marquez on Lap 1.
The deficiencies of the Yamaha M1 meant Quartararo only held onto P2 while Marquez built into the Goiania Sprint aboard his Ducati GP26 before taking the place back on Lap 3. Aprilia ace Bezzecchi also followed Marquez through despite Quartararo doing everything he could.
Jorge Martin of Aprilia also put a move on Quartararo on Lap 4 of 15, with the Yamaha rider simply not in the same race as his rivals. Third place was also Martin’s on Lap 7 when Aprilia teammate Bezzecchi made a mistake and ran wide trying to carry too much speed at Turn 9.
Fermin Aldeguer had a horrendous start that could have seen chaos descend on the Sprint at the Brazilian GP, as the Gresini rider shot sideways across the grid and plummeted down the order. While Aldeguer continued, fellow Spaniard Joan Mir of Honda crashed on Lap 3.
