The Brazilian Grand Prix’s return to MotoGP saw several controversies in Goiania as the track encountered multiple issues throughout the weekend.

Goiania had huge flooding on Thursday before the race, which cast some doubt over the event. The organisers managed to fix the issue, but that was only the start of the track’s problems.

A massive sinkhole delayed the Sprint race, with extensive repairs needed on the start/finish straight. Marc Marquez clinched victory over Fabio Di Giannantonio over 15 laps and looked to do the same over 31 laps on Sunday, except the race was not that long.

MotoGP decided to shorten the Brazilian Grand Prix to 23 laps due to track degradation, with riders already locked in with their choice of tyre. It caught the teams completely off guard and left many bosses furious.

Davide Tardozzi was fuming over MotoGP shortening the Brazilian Grand Prix

Aprilia grabbed a 1-2 finish in Goiania, with Marco Bezzecchi claiming his fourth MotoGP win in a row over teammate Jorge Martin. Di Giannantonio beat Marquez to lock out the podium, with the defending champion struggling to keep up by the end of the race.

Parts of the track were coming apart and hitting the riders in the latter stages of the Brazilian Grand Prix, which justified the decision to shorten the race. However, as Davide Tardozzi later revealed, the call came at the last minute.

MotoGP cameras caught the Ducati boss unleashing his fury at Carlos Ezpeleta over the decision. He was not at all happy as the opportunity to change tyres and strategy was made impossible by the late call.

But did MotoGP make the right call? 🤔 Let us know in the comments!

Speaking to TNT Sports 2 after the race, Tardozzi gave his honest views on the shortened Brazilian GP, stating that he would continue to talk to organisers about the situation.

“It was a shock, because we didn’t know until the last five or six minutes, and, OK, maybe for the organisers to take this decision, there must be a reason,” he said.

“We trust them, so we’ll speak about that in Austin, but I’m sure they will explain why. That’s it.”

Pablo Nieto found shorter Brazilian Grand Prix ‘strange’

VR46 boss Pablo Nieto was also taken aback by the late decision, even if he agreed with it. He wishes that the decision had been made earlier.

“It was strange,” he told TNT Sports 2. “I agree, if something happens, I agree that you must change the distance of the race. But I don’t agree that they tell us four minutes before the race.

“So I think if they want to make something like that, they must tell us a little bit earlier, because we can make a plan, we can make something different.

“But in the end, I came to the guys, to the team, and said: ‘Listen, this is exactly the same for everyone. So let’s try to make it like this.”
