MotoGP’s new minimum salary proposal for the 2027 season is set to benefit multiple talents on the grid, including those in the lower classes, particularly Senna Agius.
The proposal would see MotoGP teams pay riders a minimum salary of 500,000 euros (roughly £437k) per season from 2027.
Pramac rider Jack Miller felt some riders do not get ‘paid accordingly’ for the risks that they take on track to perform at their very best in MotoGP. At the moment, three riders contracted until 2026 are currently paid less than half a million a year.
Is €500k a fair minimum salary for MotoGP riders?
Gresini rider Fermin Aldeguer (£250k), VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio (£350k) and Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez (250k) are those three talents. Ai Ogura’s salary is not publicly known, but it is difficult to imagine Trackhouse paying the 2025 rookie above the minimum salary for 2027.
With this proposal, it can be argued that these riders benefit the most with an instant salary increase. While it may seem difficult for independent teams to manage, it is believed that Liberty Media’s ownership will skyrocket revenue and thus support the new salary measures.
But when one thinks about it, it is actually the younger talents in Moto2 and Moto3 that are biggest beneficiaries. Riders like Agius are in a perfect position when they join the MotoGP grid.
Senna Agius will get a suitable salary increase under MotoGP’s new proposal
As it is probably well known, rider salaries in Moto2 are quite low. Reportedly, salaries typically range from around 75k-150k euros, while some may not even get paid at all.
Obviously, considering the risks they take at every race weekend, this is not substantial enough for a rider. Therefore, this salary proposal for MotoGP gives talents the financial security, something that those in the lower divisions have yet to experience.
For someone like Agius, who is showing his talents in Moto2, it is the perfect opportunity for him to earn a decent wage whilst getting the support of a MotoGP team. Agius had been linked with MotoGP teams, and is reportedly still on the radar for 2027.
Miller is getting exactly what he wants from MotoGP with the minimum salary, and his Australian counterpart will be the biggest winner, if he can make it to the premier class next season.

Can Senna Agius win the Moto2 title in 2026?
Whether the Intact GP rider can achieve this all depends on his performances in 2026. Agius is entering his third full season in Moto2 this year, and he is coming off his best campaign to date.
The 20-year-old had previously struggled in the intermediate class, scoring just one podium in his first full-time assault in Moto2 in 2024. But in 2025, Agius turned a corner, finishing 10th in the standings with two wins and four podiums.
Agius won his home race at Phillip Island, as well as claiming victory at Silverstone. With victories now under his belt in Moto2, he will be looking to push on again and fight for the title.
He certainly has the talent and will be one of the strongest riders on the grid in 2026. If he can keep up the momentum, Agius should be on the radar of MotoGP teams and will earn that pay rise that he and several other junior talents deserve.
