The MotoGP rider market is not expected to conjure up much movement for the 2026 season after Jorge Martin confirmed he is staying put at Aprilia.
Despite months of speculation linking him to Honda, the defending champion will be staying at the Noale outfit for the 2026 season after resolving his contract dispute. Subsequently, there is little room for movement among the teams for next year.
Luca Marini recently extended his contract at Honda for 2026, meaning there are now four seats available on the MotoGP rider market. Johann Zarco is likely to stay at LCR, while teammate Somkiat Chantra is almost certain to lose his seat after a torrid first half of 2025.
Pramac are close to deciding Toprak Razgatlioglu’s teammate for 2026, while VR46 have no reason to drop Franco Morbidelli. However, Dorna have suggested to VR46 to replace Morbidelli, with Pedro Acosta being linked to Valentino Rossi’s outfit.
With those seats available, several Moto2 riders have been linked with a move up to the premier class. The likes of Manu Gonzalez and Diogo Moreira have been tipped to join MotoGP in 2026, and another name has popped up on the rumour mill.

‘Rumours’ say MotoGP teams are keeping an eye on Senna Agius for a possible move in 2026
Speaking via the Pit Talk podcast, MotoGP reporter Jack Appleyard has heard ‘rumours’ that Aussie talent Senna Agius is being looked at by teams in the premier class. There have been talks that he could have a MotoGP test before the end of the year, like Gonzalez did with Trackhouse at Aragon.
“Senna, he’s so methodical and precise in how he works. And he wasn’t getting carried away with himself, he was just slowly making small steps towards the front,” said Appleyard.
“And now, this year he’s one of the strongest guys out there. I think going into next year, without a doubt, he’s going to be a title contender. I don’t think there’s going to be too many guys [who] move up to MotoGP.
“It looks like Moreira’s going to step up, looks like there’s going to be a couple of guys that move over to World Superbikes, Dixon and Canet.
“Likely, his teammate will stay it seems like at the moment, despite potentially winning the world championship. And then you would say next year, it’s going to be Gonzalez looking to go back-to-back.
“It’s going to be Senna, probably going to be David Alonso, all there fighting to be world champion. There was, I heard rumours that some potential interest even for this year in Senna moving up to MotoGP.
“But for sure, I think he’s going to be on the shopping list for a lot of teams in 2027.”

Is Senna Agius ready for the step up to MotoGP?
Agius is into his fourth season in Moto2 and he is currently enjoying his strongest campaign in the intermediate class yet. The Aussie grabbed his first win in the category in 2025 at Silverstone.
The 20-year-old is seventh in the standings as the summer break nears its end. But he still has a way to go before he can challenge for the title, with Agius sitting 95 points behind teammate Gonzalez.
A move to MotoGP may be a step too far for the Aussie in 2026, with another season in Moto2 being perhaps the best thing to do. If he can challenge for the championship that season, then he certainly will be in the conversation for a promotion in 2027.
