Alex Marquez is considering whether to leave Gresini at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season when his contract expires. His stock surged last year when he unexpectedly finished runner-up behind his brother Marc.
Alex has sought Marc’s advice about his next move. The latter spent the 2024 season with Nadia Padovani’s team but that was effectively a stepping stone to a factory Ducati seat.
While Marc has predicted that Alex will join Ducati, this isn’t thought to be a serious possibility. Instead, Alex Marquez is attracting interest from KTM.

Alex has heavily hinted that he has made his mind up already, with confirmation expected before the opening round in Thailand. KTM need a replacement for Pedro Acosta, who will be joining Marc in red from 2027.
Maximo Quiles emerges as a contender for a 2027 Gresini seat
If the Acosta and Marquez moves go through as anticipated, Gresini will be next in the rider market queue. While Fermin Aldeguer has been linked with VR46, Austrian outlet Speedweek expect him to stay put.
Ducati are determined to sign David Alonso and they could place him at Gresini, just as they did with Aldeguer.

But according to Speedweek, it’s not out of the question that they dip into Moto3. Maximo Quiles could jump directly to the premier class.
Quiles is a Moto3 title contender this year and it’s likely that he will have to win the championship to have any chance of bypassing Moto2. But the ‘active support’ of Marc Marquez, who’s part of the same management stable, could be crucial.

Despite missing four races due to the age limit and an injury, Quiles finished third in the Moto3 standings last year behind Jose Antonio Rueda and Angel Piqueras.
He scored podiums in half of his 18 races and maintained a 100% point-scoring record. In fact, there were only three rounds all season where he dropped outside the top six.
Dani Pedrosa has talked up Quiles’ potential to be one of Spain’s next MotoGP superstars, but perhaps Marquez will advise him not to jump to the highest level before he’s ready.
For 2026, Quiles will continue with the CFMoto Aspar team alongside new teammate Marco Morelli.
