Several MotoGP riders are scrambling to decide their next move on the grid in 2027, and Alex Marquez is among them.

The 29-year-old has become one of the most sought-after talents on the MotoGP rider market in 2026. His stock has skyrocketed after finishing P2 in the standings in 2025 with three wins and 12 podiums.

Fresh off his best MotoGP season to date, the Gresini rider is looking to keep up the momentum. Marquez was fastest in the race simulations at the Sepang test, beating factory Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia and brother, Marc Marquez.

With his contract expiring at Gresini at the end of the year, he has a decision to make about his future. Several riders, such as Fabio Quartararo and Jorge Martin, have already made huge moves for 2027, according to reports.

The Spaniard is happy at Gresini as he heads into his fourth season with the team, but he has expressed his desire to ride for a factory outfit. Alex Marquez will have a factory Ducati in 2026, but he wants to wear official factory colours, and multiple options are in front of him.

Alex Marquez ‘knows’ which MotoGP team to join in 2027 after seeking advice from Marc Marquez

Alex Marquez will need to decide his future carefully, given the regulation changes in 2027. The new 850cc bikes are set shake up the pecking order, making any move for next year a risk.

That goes for any MotoGP rider on the grid, including Marc Marquez, who will be every team’s biggest target for 2027. Reports are stating that Marquez is in negotiations with Ducati over a contract renewal, with the Spaniard intent on staying in Borgo Panigale.

Speaking to MOW, brother Alex Marquez did not give away that he would be staying or leaving Gresini in 2027. But he says he now ‘knows’ what to do, having had conversations with Marc.

“I know I said in Thailand that I’ll say where I’ll go next year,” he said. “Yes, I know. Ultimately, this is my fourth year with Gresini, and that’s why I want to decide calmly, when I get home, when I have all the options on the table clear.

“The sentimental part is important: with Gresini, we’ve created something very, very important. But I have to decide carefully: there’s a time to take a risk or make a change, and now there’s also the new regulation.

“We’ll see. In the end, I’ll choose the most solid proposal or the one where I feel best and most aggressive. I want to understand everything very well.”

“I’ve already talked about it with Marc,” he added. “Even last year, when we found ourselves in such a particular situation for the first time. We both know what we have to do.”

So, what are Alex Marquez’s options for 2027?

Naturally, Gresini will want to keep Marquez, and with his new factory bike, he will have the tools to compete at the front. Early indications would suggest that he will be a title contender in 2026.

But whether that can continue in 2027 is another question, and his desire to race for a factory team may take over, especially when he has multiple options on the table.

Marquez was linked with Aprilia, but it is now believed that the Noale outfit are focused on signing Enea Bastianini. Yamaha is also an option for Marquez, who is said to be battling Bagnaia for the seat, as he looks set to be replaced by Pedro Acosta at Ducati.

Reports have suggested that Marquez is set to sign with KTM on a two-year deal, with Acosta departing. Maverick Vinales will be promoted from Tech3 to the factory team, thus giving them an all-new Spanish pairing for 2027.
