After reclaiming the title in 2025 all eyes are on Marc Marquez as the start of the 2026 MotoGP season draws closer.
Marc Marquez appears to be set for another successful year with the factory Ducati squad and he could claim his second MotoGP title with the Italian manufacturer.
The Spaniard missed the final four rounds of the 2025 season due to injuries he sustained at the Indonesian Grand Prix, in a collision with Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi.
Finish the sentence: Marc Marquez’s final MotoGP team will be…
However, after ending the Sepang Test in fourth place overall across the three days of on-track action, Marquez remains a clear title favourite despite his latest surgeries at the end of 2025.
Ahead of what could be another record-breaking season for Marquez in 2026, he has already confirmed his future for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP seasons.
Marc Marquez has already put pen to paper on a new two-year deal
Heading into the 2026 MotoGP season, it was expected that Marquez would remain with Ducati after dominating the 2025 season.
The nine-time World Champion found instant success in his debut season with the factory squad, and Davide Tardozzi confirmed at the team launch that they would prioritise re-signing him.
It now appears that the deal is done, as El Periodico reports that Marquez has already signed an extension to remain in red for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP seasons.
El Periodico state that the contract ‘has been signed for many days now and the official statement from the Ducati Lenovo team is about to drop’.
However, Mauro Grassilli, Ducati’s Sporting Director, confirmed to Moto.it that the renewal ‘was more challenging than the first contract’.
Who will partner Marc Marquez next season?
One of the major talking points heading into the 2026 season is who will be in the factory Ducati squad alongside Marquez.
It now seems all but confirmed that his current teammate and two-time MotoGP World Champion, Francesco Bagnaia, will not remain with Ducati in 2027.
The Italian has been linked with moves to either Yamaha or Aprilia for next season, which will leave a factory-spec Ducati up for grabs, with reports speculating that a fellow Spaniard could join Marquez.
Despite no official confirmation, it is believed that Pedro Acosta will leave KTM at the end of 2026 and will jump ship to Ducati for the 2027 season. This deal would see Acosta partner Marquez, the rider who he has been compared to throughout his career.
