Pedro Acosta has made a series of bold predictions for the 2027 MotoGP rider market. Acosta is, of course, at the centre of more rumours than any other rider.
Indeed, multiple reports suggest that Acosta will join the factory Ducati team in 2027, replacing Francesco Bagnaia as Marc Marquez’s teammate.
Publicly, Acosta insists he’s taking his time before choosing his next destination, but that contradicts all of the reporting.
Have Ducati made the right decision? 💣
The Spaniard expects Fabio Quartararo to join Honda, as is widely expected, but he thinks Jorge Martin will be his teammate rather than his replacement. Joan Mir could be the answer for Yamaha instead.
Acosta also hinted that Maverick Vinales will join KTM, with the veteran rider’s promotion from Tech3 already lined up. He effectively let Pit Beirer’s succession plan slip.
Pedro Acosta predicts Alex Marquez will join Marco Bezzecchi at Gresini
Perhaps the most intriguing prediction Acosta made concerned Alex Marquez. The Gresini rider was one of the stars of the 2025 season, winning a total of six races and scoring 26 podiums en route to second in the championship.
Marquez has repeatedly expressed his gratitude to Gresini, having flourished at Nadia Padovani’s team after previously feeling ‘invisible’ at Honda. Given his success, it was expected that he would stay put.
Still, his 2025 performances have attracted factory interest. KTM have been linked with Marquez, but Acosta could see him ending up at Aprilia as the replacement for Martin.
Acosta is managed by Albert Valera, who is also Martin’s agent. His predictions went as follows…
Do you agree with Pedro’s calls?
“Quartararo? Honda
“Martin? Honda, also.
“Vinales? KTM.
“Mir? Yamaha.
“Alex Marquez? Aprilia.
“Bezzecchi? Aprilia.
“Marc Marquez? In Ducati.”
Could Gresini have two brand new riders in 2027?
Gresini just enjoyed their best MotoGP season since 2004, defying their position at the bottom of the Ducati hierarchy by beating VR46 to second. However, there’s a chance that both of their riders will be picked off.
Marquez could receive some tempting offers, and Fermin Aldeguer has been linked with VR46 recently. Ironically, Aldeguer might be Valentino Rossi’s alternative to Acosta.
With Ducati poised to lock in Acosta and Marquez until the end of 2028, Aldeguer may move up the chain as he waits for a factory chance.
But Gresini might end up with an equally exciting young talent. Ducati are chasing David Alonso, and an apprenticeship on the sky blue bike makes plenty of sense.
