The 2027 MotoGP rider market is already heating up, and Honda may be able to pull off an ingenious heist on Ducati if they can secure Marc Marquez’s signature.
Pretty much every rider on the grid is out of contract at the end of the upcoming term, leading many to believe that MotoGP’s regulatory overhaul will bring with it brand-new driver line-ups.
As the 2025 title-winner, Marc Marquez currently has the pick of the bunch, but the Spaniard has remained tight-lipped in regards to any speculation due to his desire to see who emerges with championship-calibre machinery.
A potential exit for Marquez from Ducati is certainly a worrying prospect for the Italian constructor, but it could be made even more worrisome if Luigi Dall’Igna decides that he has achieved all he can at Borgo Panigale.

If Marc Marquez exits Ducati for Honda, Luigi Dall’Igna could follow him
According to a report by Sky Italia, Ducati could see the brains of their MotoGP operation, Dall’Igna, exit the team if Marquez opts to sign on Honda’s dotted line.
Previous reports have suggested that the relationship between Dall’Igna and Davide Tardozzi is declining, with the latter of Ducati’s leadership duo currently coming under pressure at Borgo Panigale.
The Italian broadcaster’s report states that Honda are ‘ready’ to make Marquez an ‘important offer’ that could see the Spaniard return to the factory outfit that he won six of his current premier class world titles with.
A switch from a rider who is arguably the benchmark for every other competitor on the grid would have immediate consequences for the Italian constructor’s title hopes in the following campaign.
Dall’Igna, who would certainly be well-versed in what a Marquez exit would mean for the team, ‘could be tempted’ into following the Ant of Cervera out of the door at Borgo Panigale and into a new environment for the Italian engineer at Honda.
The report also goes on to mention that one of Fabio Quartararo, Pedro Acosta or Jorge Martin could be looked upon to fill the void that the seven-time MotoGP world champion would leave at the team.

Marc Marquez has made his feelings clear over a potential return to Honda
Links over a potential reunification of the Spaniard and Honda have been rife in recent months, but the Spaniard has stuck to his guns regarding what he wants to know before making a decision on 2027.
Marquez is ‘attracted’ to a Honda return, but he is adamant on waiting until he is more in-the-know over the competitiveness of their 2027 prototype before setting a move in stone.
The calibre of Honda’s MotoGP bike can be attributed to the reason why he left the factory outfit in the first place.
However, the Japanese constructor has been making strides in that department in recent months, and their project is currently on an upward trajectory.
Despite all this, Honda will be facing competition for Marquez’s signature after it recently emerged that the 32-year-old has already received a ‘strong’ offer from KTM for his services.
At this moment in time, the Austrian constructor is probably one of the more unattractive options for the Spaniard, but impressive results in the upcoming season could certainly shift the tide in their favour.
