Luigi Dall’Igna has issued surprise stance on retaining Marc Marquez at Ducati in 2027

Marc Marquez doesn’t know which MotoGP outfit he’ll be racing for in 12 months, which sets up a fascinating season ahead.

Not only is the Spaniard tasked with his first title defence since 2020, but the ascending Aprilia outfit are bound to be clipping his heels.

Marquez managed to settle in very well at Ducati, with the only real blip coming when Marco Bezzecchi crashed into him in Indonesia, ending his season prematurely.

But he did plenty to prove that he should be top of every team’s list in the MotoGP rider market for 2027, and where he ends up will be up to him.

What do you expect Marc Marquez to achieve in 2026?

Throughout his career, he has always pushed hard. It’s why Marquez has hinted at his biggest Ducati problem for next year already. He can’t help but push, even when coming back from a big injury.

Winning the 2026 title would be worse than 2025 for Marquez, because the satisfaction of redemption and making it to the top again won’t be there.

Luigi Dall’Igna is willing to wait before confirming Marc Marquez’s Ducati spot for 2027

Marquez has hinted he’ll stay at Ducati, but there are no guarantees that he’ll like the terms offered to him when they sit down to talk for the first time.

For starters, a pay rise will be in order, considering the level of success he has brought to the Borgo Panigale outfit since joining them.

There’s also the problem of the other bike to solve, a position currently held by Francesco Bagnaia, but could be changed in the future.

According to Mowmag, Luigi Dall’Igna is willing to wait and see how Marquez and Bagnaia perform relative to each other in 2026 before confirming either of them for the following season.

It’s a bit of a surprise that he’s willing to leave the seven-time champion on the market, with their rivals able to engage in talks with him.

Ducati will ‘never’ have Honda’s cash, but what they can offer is a bike that will be in contention right now. That’s what brings Marquez the most comfort.

Why Marc Marquez’s best option is to stay at Ducati for 2027

Extending his Ducati deal for another year will give Marquez an opportunity to evaluate the field when the new regulations begin.

From there, he can opt to remain where he is or explore an opening with a rival. Going back to Honda so soon would be a surprise, but it can’t be ruled out.

All the while he is winning and has the hunger to do so, his rivals should be scared of how long he will be around.

If he copies Valentino Rossi and sticks around into his 40s, it’s not impossible that he might achieve multiple more titles before hanging up his racing gloves for good.
