Marc Marquez is on the verge of history as he enters the 2026 MotoGP season with the chance of clinching his 10th overall championship.
The Spaniard won his seventh MotoGP title and ninth overall with Ducati in 2025, winning 11 Grands Prix and 14 Sprints. Marquez won the championship at Motegi, with a record five rounds of the season remaining.
It marked the sensational comeback that the 32-year-old had longed to achieve after his injury woes with Honda. But interestingly, Marquez is now only recognised as a seven-time champion as Dorna look to move MotoGP away from Moto2 and Moto3.
Nevertheless, the Ant of Cervera has nine Grand Prix titles to his name, winning in 125cc in 2010 and Moto2 in 2012. In 2026, he could become a 10-time champion with Ducati.

Marc Marquez says his 10th title ‘wouldn’t be better’ than his 2025 triumph
If he comes out on top, Marquez will surpass his nemesis, Valentino Rossi, for the most premier class titles of all time. Marquez equalled Rossi’s record in 2025.
Winning his 10th overall title will put him third on the all-time list of champions and equal with Giacomo Agostini for premier class wins. Jorge Lorenzo does not think Marquez will beat Agostini for overall titles, currently standing at 15.

Marquez has also downplayed his 10th title, if he is to win it in 2026. Speaking to AS, he sees his 2025 championship as the ‘most important’ of his career.
Talking about closing out 2025, he said: “Sadness is not the word, but of course I will always remember 2025 fondly, for everything I experienced before reaching this result that I fought so hard for and for being the year of going all in, a bet that turned out very well and with which I am very happy.”
“We’ll see what happens in 2026, and you should never take things for granted, but what I am very clear about is that a tenth title wouldn’t be better than this year’s, given everything it took to get here. The 2025 title is my most important title of all.”

How will Marc Marquez perform in 2026 after his shoulder injury?
The 2026 MotoGP season is set to be an exciting one. Marquez will face a new rival next year as Aprilia and Marco Bezzecchi have caught up with Ducati in his absence.
There lies a problem for the defending champion, as he is recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained with Bezzecchi in Indonesia. He missed the final four races of 2025 as a result of the crash.
Marquez has sacrificed his holidays to ensure that he is back in time for pre-season testing at Sepang. His time on the sidelines could have a damaging effect on him when he returns, especially now that his rivals have closed the gap.
But Ducati chief Luigi Dall’Igna believes Marquez will perform well after his injury and suffer no repercussions. He should still have the fastest bike on the grid, and as 2025 showed, he was almost impossible to beat when he was on track.
