Marc Marquez has one ‘last vulnerability’ that could stop him winning the 2026 MotoGP title

Nobody is quite sure whether or not Marc Marquez will be 100% fit in time for the start of the 2026 MotoGP season.

The Spaniard suffered a year-ending crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix, when Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi tagged him from behind, sending him into the gravel. It was a killer blow for Ducati.

With Marquez forced to take time in his recovery, rather than push himself back to action too soon and risk worsening his state, he had to miss the post-season test in Valencia.

There, he would have gathered some crucial information on the GP26 bike. Instead, he’ll be heading into his next MotoGP campaign a bit blind.

Marquez told Ducati that he ‘didn’t push to 100%’ at some races in 2025, and still managed to dominate the field.

That’s concerning for his riders, and is why Davide Tardozzi realised Marquez is a ‘phenomenon’ on a motorcycle.

Marc Marquez’s ‘last vulnerability’ of old injuries could prevent 2026 title push

Marquez was told he had to leave Honda if he wanted to get back to having fun on a motorcycle again. Countless crashes and injuries had become tiring.

He didn’t give up, though, but his latest crash has sparked fears that one ‘last vulnerability’ could be his downfall, now that he’s 32 years old.

“That’s the last vulnerability of Marc that you just mentioned,” said Peter Bom on the Oxley Bom Podcast. “When you’re over 30, you’re mad. Before that, he was made of rubber, and now suddenly you’re not, and it’s even worse.

“Some of the old injuries that you’ve thought, ‘I walked away from that one.’ It comes back after 30. His health is probably his biggest problem. Other than that, you have to put all the money on him for next year.”

Honda’s sponsors made it ‘difficult’ for Marquez to leave, and the last few seasons has proven why they were right to put up some resistance.

He still had plenty of life in him, but can’t afford to rush back from the recent damage to his collarbone. He won’t want to risk reaggravating it and shorten his career span.

Which team should Marc Marquez sign for in 2027?

With a regulation change on the horizon, it’s almost impossible to predict where Marquez should go in the future.

Marquez could take Luigi Dall’Igna with him to Honda if he still has the belief that their project can be successful.

It would have been just over three years since he left them, but how hard would it be to accept leaving the best bike in the championship behind?

It might not be that hard if Honda’s ascension continues, indicating that they might actually be the best place to be in the future.
