Marc Marquez was the dominant force in MotoGP in 2025, cruising to his seventh premier class title and ninth Grand Prix championship.

Joining the factory Ducati team, everyone knew that the Spaniard would be in contention for the championship in 2025. But in the end, it was not a contest at all, as Marquez wrapped up the title with five races to spare.

Where does Marc Marquez’s 2025 rank among the best seasons by a rider in MotoGP history?

He won 11 Grand Prix and 14 Sprint races, winning 15 consecutive races from Aragon to Catalunya. Even with his success, he stayed humble, with Ducati crew chief Marco Rigamonti saying that Marquez does not have a ‘VIP’ attitude like some other riders.

The 2025 season could have been even more dominant for the 32-year-old, with Marquez missing the final five races through injury after his crash in Indonesia. Ducati have also suggested that he was capable of more when he was on the track.

Marco Rigamonti says Marc Marquez told Ducati that he ‘didn’t push to 100%’ at some races in 2025

Speaking to Marca, Rigamonti revealed that Marquez told his team that he was not pushing to ‘100%’ at some races this season. He believes he could be capable of going further.

“What I can say is that this year there were races where he didn’t push to 100%. That’s what he’s told us. Or that he pushed hard for two laps, opened up a gap, and then managed the pace,” he said.

“This has happened, it’s undeniable. Like in Misano, where he gave 100% throughout the entire race. He’s honest about that; it’s not like he was riding with a little bit of gas, no, he pushed hard.

“So, if we put him in conditions where he always has to give 100%, what would we be talking about? Maybe more crashes, you never know. Many say, ‘No, I’m pushing.’ You say, ‘OK, fine,’ but you forget that you’re pushing to the limit.

“So it’s difficult to say. For me, in that situation he can go further, but I can’t tell you where the limit is.”

Marco Rigamonti’s claim suggests Marc Marquez knew the limit on the GP25, but he still suffered heavy crashes

Rigamonti’s claim would suggest that Marquez was cautious about riding beyond the limit. His past struggles with injury have made him take extra care on the track, which was clearly enough for him to still dominate the championship.

Marquez crashed just 14 times in 2025, which is the least he has had in the past four years. He kept the total down with some miraculous saves, most notably in pre-season testing, with Davide Tardozzi calling Marquez a ‘phenomenon’ after a close-call in Sepang.

But even with this approach, it did not stop him from having some heavy accidents. The Spaniard denied himself more points with crashes in Austin and Jerez, while Marquez suffered two huge crashes at Assen during practice.

His incident with Marco Bezzecchi at Mandalika was the biggest of the lot, ending his season early. Marquez bent a screw in his right arm, which had been put in after his highside at Jerez in 2020, in the crash.
