The 2025 MotoGP season was an incredible year for the Marquez family as brothers Marc and Alex made history.

Marc Marquez was tipped as the favourite for the championship after his move to Ducati, and that is exactly what played out as he wrapped up the title in Japan. It marks a historic comeback after years of injury setbacks.

The Ant of Cervera won 25 races across the season, including 15 consecutively between Aragon and Barcelona. He was almost unstoppable in 2025, but not many would have expected his brother to be his closest rival.

Who is the biggest threat to Marc Marquez in 2026?

Alex Marquez had struggled with inconsistency in MotoGP before 2025. But with the GP24, he found his feet as he grabbed three wins and 12 podiums.

Alex Marquez secured P2 in the championship at Sepang with his third win of the year. It marks the first time that brothers have finished in the top two of the standings.

Marc Marquez explains his family ‘rivalries’ with Alex Marquez made 2025 ‘one of his best seasons’

Naturally, the Marquez family would have wanted Marc to recover from his injury woes in 2025. But his mother Roser Alenta wanted Alex to win the title over his brother, having not won a premier class title yet.

Talking about his 2025 season at the FIM Gala to AS, Marc Marquez explained that 2025 was ‘one of the best seasons’ of his career to date. His ‘rivalries’ with his family made it up there with one of his favourites.

“All the riders gave it their all and dedicated every effort and passion,” he said. “My passion is what gave me the energy to try and get out of the hole I got myself into in 2020. At one point I thought it would be impossible to come back here, but we’re back.

“Many thanks to my whole team, to Ducati and my family. It has been one of the best seasons of my life because my biggest rival was my brother.

“There were some rivalries because my mother supported my brother, but the truth is that if you follow your instincts and enjoy your passion, you can climb out of any hole.”

Can Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez replicate their success in 2026?

Heading into 2026, the Marquez brothers will be expected to have another successful season and perhaps even repeat their one-two finish. Alex Marquez will have a factory bike next year, giving him equal machinery to his brother.

The problem for the 29-year-old is that the Ant of Cervera is almost impossible to beat on the same bike. Alex knows riders cannot give Marc space during wheel-to-wheel battles, as he will attack if given the chance.

While the brothers have the momentum heading into 2026, Marc Marquez doubts another one-two finish, calling it ‘unlikely’ to happen again.

The Ducati rider will be the clear favourite for the title next year, and it seems that his brother has already admitted defeat. Alex Marquez is happy finishing second in 2026, suggesting he is not fussed about becoming a world champion.
