No rider on the MotoGP grid knows Marc Marquez better than his brother Alex Marquez. The pair have been racing together throughout their career.
The younger Marquez brother made it to the premier class by the time Marquez Sr was already a six-time MotoGP champion with Honda. Alex joined Marc at the Japanese giants in 2020, which proved to be a tough season.
Marc Marquez suffered a near-career-ending injury at Jerez, while his brother struggled massively with the RC213V. Alex dropped down to LCR in 2021, before leaving Honda for Ducati satellite team Gresini in 2023.
Following his struggles with injury, Alex convinced Marc to leave Honda and come to Ducati – the brothers would partner at Gresini in 2024. The latter was desperate to win again, and joining the Borgo Panigale outfit was the right decision.
Winning three races with Gresini in 2024, Marc Marquez moved to the factory Ducati team in 2025. He returned to his best this season, claiming 11 Grand Prix and 14 Sprint wins to clinch the championship.

Alex Marquez says riders cannot give Marc Marquez space during battles because he will attack
It was an incredible season for the family, as Alex Marquez secured P2 in the championship. He was arguably his brother’s closest competitor, winning his first three races in MotoGP on the GP24.
The Gresini rider challenged his brother in the early races, battling for the win and even passing the Ant of Cervera for the lead. However, he often played second fiddle to the Ducati rider.
Marc and Alex made a ‘pact’ before the 2025 season about how they would go racing. They would not blame one another if they were to collide on the track.
The pair went on to dominate the season, but it was the older brother who had the clear advantage. “You can’t give him the slightest bit of space, because he’s going to attack,” said Alex on El Hormiguero, via quotes from Sport, as he explained how Marc is different from other riders in battles.

Will Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez be teammates again one day at Ducati?
After such an incredible 2025 season, which marks the first time that brothers have finished first and second in the championship, many will be looking to see if the Marquezes can replicate their success in 2026.
Alex Marquez will ride a factory bike in 2026 after his impressive performances this season. With equal machinery, the 29-year-old could put himself in a position to fight for the championship, and maybe for a factory Ducati seat.
Francesco Bagnaia is under pressure at Ducati to keep his seat in 2026. But even with a factory bike next year, Marc has hinted that Luigi Dall’Igna won’t sign Alex, as the Spaniard would find it ‘very difficult’ to share the factory team with his brother.
In any case, Alex is not focused on joining Ducati as he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Gresini. The team have brought the best out of the 29-year-old, and he will be looking for more success in 2026.
