Alex Marquez is enjoying his best season in MotoGP with Gresini in 2025 as he finds himself second in the standings.
The 29-year-old has found new levels of performance this season on the GP24. He displayed strong consistency in the opening races as he challenged with brother Marc Marquez at the front.
Finishing second in the opening seven races, Sprints included, Alex Marquez won his first MotoGP race at Jerez, which gave him the lead of the championship at the time. The Gresini rider has been on the podium three more times since then as mistakes are beginning to creep in.
Crashes at Assen and Brno and disappointing weekends in Austria and Hungary have put him 175 points behind his brother heading into their home race in Barcelona. Marc Marquez has won the last 14 races, including Sprints, almost guaranteeing him the championship.
Alex Marquez has admitted defeat in 2025, but he is incredibly happy with his performances as he sits 52 points ahead of factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia. It has sparked debate about the Borgo Panigale outfit’s line-up for the next contract cycle.

Alex Marquez is enjoying Gresini ‘too much’ to think about joining Ducati
Alex Marquez is not an option for Ducati in 2026 as he has a two-year contract with Gresini. When that deal expires, all eyes will be on the manufacturer as they weigh up their options for the 2027 season.
Given his performances in 2025, Alex Marquez will be under consideration, but he has admitted that he is very happy at Gresini. Speaking with the official MotoGP YouTube channel, the Spaniard is loving the project and is not thinking about his future.
“All the riders want to have an official contract or be in an official team. But what I’m having here in this team is something very special,” he said.
“So, it’s not just to go to a factory team. It’s always the project, which people we will have around you. It’s something that I need to think about.
“We’ll see in the future what happens, but at the moment, I’m enjoying too much just to think on the future.
“I struggled a lot in the past, and now that I’m enjoying it, I don’t want to think about what will happen in one year and a half.”

Marc Marquez said it was the factory Ducati team or no one for 2025
While Alex Marquez has seemed to suggest that he would be happy to stay at Gresini beyond his current deal, his brother held a different view when he raced with the team in 2024.
Marc Marquez joined Gresini from Honda, partnering with his brother, to try and regain his confidence and fighting spirit after a torrid few years with injury. After finishing third in the standings on the GP23, he made his intentions clear that he wanted to join the factory Ducati team.
Speaking via Autosport, he stated that he would not stay at the Borgo Panigale outfit if he was not wearing the official red colours in 2025: “I will not move from one satellite team to another one.
“As I said in Montmelo, my situation changed a bit. Last year I was looking to try to enjoy, try to get that feedback again, that confidence, find a way to be competitive again. Now, step by step, I’m more and more competitive.
“If you want to fight for a championship, it’s possible to do it with the 23 bike like this year. But if you want to fight for a championship, if you have more facilities like it’s a factory team, you need to try to have.
“Why? Because it would be easier to fight with the top guys, which are super fast everywhere.”
