Jack Miller concerned by what he’s noticed ‘as soon as you go on the gas’ with Yamaha’s V4 engine

Jack Miller faces one of the most difficult tasks of his MotoGP career so far when he arrives for the start of the 2026 season.

He’s a big part of Yamaha’s V4 project, and will help shape the direction that project takes over the next few years.

Miller is currently the only one of their four riders with any experience with a similar engine, and that’s why his feedback will be so vital.

Although they’re currently MotoGP’s slowest manufacturer, their hope will be to be off the bottom of the standings in 2026.

Miller could extend his career beyond 2026 if he can become the main reason why their offering improves over the next 12 months.

Ahead of the Valencia test, Miller wanted more horsepower from the V4, which he thinks is still lacking compared to his competitors.

Jack Miller left concerned by Yamaha’s power ‘delivery’ on the V4 engine

Yamaha’s V4 should fix a Miller disadvantage that he has had to battle throughout his first season with them in 2025.

His bike was as much as 12kg overweight, which is a lot of lap-time left on the track. Fabio Quartararo will want to see that improved, too.

Miller’s fanbase have suffered more than any other recently, and watched him endure one of his worst seasons in the premier class.

But he’s already hard at work trying to fix what went wrong and is already telling Yamaha where the V4 must improve. He wants a better and smoother power delivery.

“Electronics still needs a lot of work, as we still have to deal with the same problems as last year when I got on the M1 at this juncture, so the acceleration and progression,” he told GPOne. “In terms of traction control, we are not in bad shape.

“It’s just the way it works. We have to find a way to get a better delivery and allow the bike to be fluid and not skate as soon as you go on the gas.”

How will Yamaha’s MotoGP operations change for 2026?

With the recent announcement that they’ll be moving on from the inline-four engine for 2026, Yamaha are taking a step into the unknown.

The V4 is now their port of call, and they must find a way to hit the ground running with it if they want to enter 2027 in good shape.

Losing Quartararo, who has been so loyal to them, would be a major blow. Replacing someone like him would be almost impossible.

Miller has warned Toprak Razgatlioglu about ‘destroying’ his confidence, and they don’t want to be left in a mess. Signing someone like Francesco Bagnaia could be good for everyone.
