Jack Miller outlines what he wants to see from Yamaha’s V4 ahead of Valencia test

Jack Miller is looking ahead to post-season testing at Valencia as he prepares to ride Yamaha’s V4 bike for the first time.

It has been a tough 2025 campaign for Yamaha, with Fabio Quartararo again carrying the weight of the manufacturer on his shoulders. He scored more points across the season than Alex Rins, Miguel Oliveira and Miller did combined.

Consistent results were hard to come by for Miller this season, achieving a best finish of fifth back in Austin. Multiple crashes on the M1 hampered his year, but he still did enough to convince Yamaha to keep him on board, with Miller signing a new deal with Pramac for 2026.

Now, he can focus on developing the new V4 engine, which Yamaha will introduce next season. It is hoped that the bike will take the Iwata outfit back to the front of MotoGP, but early signs are not too promising.

Jack Miller wants to find an extra ’25 horsepower’ from the Yamaha V4 ahead of testing at Valencia

Quartararo has been pushing Yamaha to test the V4 more ahead of 2026, with Augusto Fernandez making several wildcard appearances in the final rounds of 2025. He is growing impatient with the manufacturer to produce a winning bike, having not won since 2022.

Quartararo was furious after Fernandez crashed in Sepang; he wants to see the bike develop smoothly. Currently, the V4 is miles off the pace of its rivals, a feeling shared by Miller after the Valencia Grand Prix.

Speaking to TNT Sports 2 (16/11, 2:18 pm) after the race, he shared that Fernandez’s feedback was ‘more positive’ over the weekend. However, he stressed that he still wants to see the V4 gain another ’25 horsepower’.

“One big thing in particular, a new bike. It looked like Augusto had a better weekend this one, and the feedback from him seemed more positive,” said Miller.

“With a new project like that, it’s tough. [We’ve been at] many different tracks now, Barcelona, Misano, Sepang and now here. And you’re kind of starting to get a base to it and sort of starting to understand what the bike needs.

“Having four riders on it, lots of feedback, it’s going to help speed up that process. Hopefully I can go home over the winter and find us about, 25 horsepower would be about nice. I’m asking Santa for some horsepower over Christmas!”

Jack Miller will be vital for Yamaha to develop the V4 in 2026

The Australian has been quite vocal about where Yamaha needs to improve its new bike. Miller lamented the ‘awful’ wheel spin on the V4, highlighting the need to improve its power delivery.

It is a crucial few months ahead for the Iwata outfit as they must ensure that the bike is good enough to win races. Quartararo has threatened to leave Yamaha if it is not, and that is where they can rely on their Pramac rider.

Miller’s feedback is vital for Yamaha behind the scenes, with it being a key reason why the manufacturer have decided to keep him on board for 2026. His experience could be crucial for the development of the bike.

It could also help him, as the V4 should fix Miller’s weight disadvantage on the track. The 30-year-old’s feedback will almost certainly benefit 2026 teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu, who will have to get accustomed to an entirely new bike after moving from WSBK.
