Jack Miller has one Yamaha trick up his sleeve that could extend his MotoGP career beyond 2026

Yamaha are going to lean heavily on Jack Miller in their development of the V4 engine throughout the 2026 MotoGP season.

If they had signed a rookie instead of him, they would have had no contracted riders with any experience with a V4 layout. That’s why Miller is essential to their charge.

Many disputed why he deserved another MotoGP campaign after having a difficult year in 2025, but he did beat his teammates (Miguel Oliveira and Augusto Fernandez) 19-3 overall.

It doesn’t matter who that’s against in the premier class, it’s a strong showing. It might have been part of the reason why Yamaha and Pramac were willing to keep him.

Miller wants to see more horsepower from Yamaha’s V4 ahead of its inauguration to all riders at the post-season test in Valencia.

Neil Hodgson spotted Miller’s ‘perfect’ braking in Valencia at the season-finale, where he secured a fifth top 10 finish of 2025.

Jack Miller’s V4 experience could help him extend his MotoGP career beyond 2026

Pramac could’ve been worried about Miller after he spent the least amount of time in the top three, as he has since his rookie year in 2025.

But it was Pramac’s first year in partnership with Yamaha since parting ways with Ducati. Pair that with a new engine in development, and it was always going to be hard.

There’s one glaring advantage in Miller’s favour when campaigning for a ride in 2027. Sticking around for the new regulations will be tough, but as mentioned before, he has something his colleagues don’t have.

If he can really contribute to the success of the V4, then he will earn himself a new gig for the future and extend his career into a 13th season.

Yamaha would be hard-pressed to find anyone with a wider array of experience across different manufacturers.

Why Jack Miller faces a new unknown with Pramac in 2026

Miller might struggle to beat his teammate 19-3 in 2026, given that he will be alongside Turkish hotshot Toprak Razgatlioglu.

The three-time World Superbike champion is relatively old for a rookie at the age of 29, but he feels that now is the right time to make a move.

Miller feels ‘sorry’ for Razgatlioglu, having been forced to wait before getting to test his new machinery, which will be vastly different to handle compared to what he’s used to.

Razgatlioglu is ‘a little bit sad’ about changing series, but he might have found a new home in the MotoGP paddock. Miller is a handy individual to be paired with for a first season.
