Marc Marquez once revealed the main ‘fear’ he had about his MotoGP career before joining Ducati

Marc Marquez’s Ducati move has been an inspiration to his colleagues after successfully completing his MotoGP comeback.

Fabio Quartararo has hailed the ‘spectacular’ Marquez, and his 2025 season was one of the most dominant ever seen before he was taken out in Indonesia. Now, Ducati have been left to prepare for 2026 without the services of their seven-time champion, and are on the back foot already.

Defending his MotoGP title with little to no preparation is going to be very difficult for Marquez. There may also be a worry that reinjuring his shoulder could cause him further issues and become a problem for the long term.

Marquez needed a screw in his arm repaired in surgery after doctors noticed that something had become loose over the last few years. Jorge Lorenzo can’t see Marquez surpassing one record, but his grit and determination may suggest otherwise.

Marc Marquez’s main ‘fear’ was his MotoGP future before joining Ducati

Marquez has ‘demoralised’ Francesco Bagnaia within just 10 months of being his teammate, and his performances have shown how much the two-time champion is underdelivering. The Italian faces a lot of pressure in 2026 as a result.

Now that he has a basis for a comparison, Marquez knows the truth about Ducati’s bike and won’t admit whether or not he prefers the GP24 because he’s the only rider who can have success with the GP25.

As soon as he gets back on a bike next year, his focus will turn immediately to winning an eighth premier class crown. Back in 2022, he revealed how he had a ‘fear’ over how his injuries would affect his participation in future championships, while still with Honda.

“But the fear about your future, for example, the situation that I had about the injury,” he said. “Two years ago, I didn’t feel it. Two years ago, I say, ‘I’m here, my body is for riding a bike.’ Of course, the risk on the track I take will be the same, always.

“Because it’s my mentality, and I cannot ride in another way. But the way to approach the injuries, the way to approach my future, the way is changing. It’s not the same mentality, but not only for me, it’s not the same mentality when you are 30 years old, or when you are 20.”

When is Marc Marquez expected to be 100% fit again?

Marquez’s replacement for the Portuguese Grand Prix is World Superbike rider Nicolo Bulega, who is highly rated.

The Spaniard has already confirmed that he’s out for the season, but when is he going to be able to ride a motorcycle again?

Marquez will be back to 100% in January at the soonest, but that will require proper rest and attention to his recovery.

There was no point in rushing a comeback, only to potentially end up with a more serious problem to deal with in the future.
