With his position at the top of the MotoGP standings now set in stone, Marc Marquez has issued his verdict on whether he can beat his own 2014 record for the most Grand Prix victories in a single season.
Marquez’s sophomore season in the premier class is one of the greatest single-season MotoGP performances ever.
Fresh off the back of his title-winning season as a rookie in 2013, the Spaniard was unstoppable as he won all of the opening 10 Grands Prix on his way to breaking Mick Doohan’s record of 12 wins in a single season.
After hitting a rut during the final third of the season that saw him winless in four straight races, Marquez equalled and broke Doohan’s 1997 feat in the final two rounds of the season.
Marc Marquez thinks breaking his 2014 MotoGP record “can be done” in 2025 with Ducati
Marquez already has 11 Grand Prix wins to his name after a barnstorming performance so far in the current campaign.
Adorned in the red leathers of the factory Ducati team, the 32-year-old has won an incredible 25 out of the 34 races across all formats in 2025.
Ahead of the upcoming Indonesian Grand Prix, at the only circuit on the 2025 MotoGP calendar that Marquez is yet to win at, the seven-time premier class champion issued his verdict on whether he can top his 2014 feat, asserting via GPOne, “How many did I win? 13? Now I’m at 11, it can be done.
“I think so because there will be Phillip Island and Valencia, two good circuits, but Mandalika, Sepang and Portimao are not the best for me, although I can defend well.
| RACES | WINS | POLES | PODIUMS | TITLES |
| 169 | 59 | 65 | 101 | 6 |
“We’ll see, I don’t want to put pressure on myself. I always say the same thing: I don’t care. I will try to give my best, but I don’t feel I can win everything.
“The goal is always to be on the podium, that I would like, but if I can’t win, it won’t be a problem.”
Marquez may face some competition from his Ducati counterpart if the results at the previous round in Japan are anything to go by.
Francesco Bagnaia’s resurgence at Motegi showed a completely different side to the Italian rider than the one we have witnessed in the current term.
What other MotoGP records can Marc Marquez break in 2025?
Marquez already has a vast number of MotoGP records to his name, including the most points in a single season, excluding Sprint races. His 2019 title-winning season saw the Spaniard total 420 points over a 19-race season.
Currently sitting on 355 points, excluding Sprint races, Marquez needs just 65 points from the remaining five Grands Prix to be able to shatter his previous record.
| YEAR | POINTS | RUNNER-UP | GAP |
| 2013 | 328 | Jorge Lorenzo | 4 |
| 2014 | 334 | Valentino Rossi | 67 |
| 2016 | 362 | Valentino Rossi | 49 |
| 2017 | 298 | Andrea Dovizioso | 37 |
| 2018 | 321 | Andrea Dovizioso | 76 |
| 2019 | 420 | Andrea Dovizioso | 151 |
The Ant of Cervera will need to find himself within the podium positions when the chequered flag falls in each of the remaining races, something that could go hand-in-hand with his hopes of surpassing his 11-year-old win record.
With a win at the upcoming round in Indonesia, Marquez will equal Valentino Rossi’s tally of Grand Prix victories at 23 different circuits.
Only Mick Doohan stands above both riders, with a victory at 24 different race tracks under his belt throughout his premier class career.
