The most successful riders at the Grand Prix of Indonesia as Marc Marquez targets Valentino Rossi record

MotoGP is headed to the Grand Prix of Indonesia this weekend, with Marc Marquez targeting several records after clinching the riders’ championship last weekend in Japan.

Marquez has displayed his most dominant performance since his previous championship victory in 2019.

The Spaniard’s MotoGP future remained uncertain in recent years after a horrific accident at the 2020 opening race in Spa saw him out for the rest of the season.

Marquez had broken his humerus and required several surgeries, and had considered retirement before being encouraged by Mick Doohan to keep racing.

Six current riders have taken a MotoGP podium at the Mandalika International Circuit, including Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia, who have both taken two each.

With the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika being a more recent addition to the MotoGP calendar, there have been only three riders to have taken a victory at the track, including Miguel Oliveira (2022), Bagnaia (2023), Jorge Martin (2024).

Marc Marquez could take record win at Grand Prix of Indonesia

2025 rider champion Marc Marquez has not taken a victory at the Grand Prix of Indonesia, seeing a bout of bad luck at the circuit over the last three races.

The Spaniard has previously struggled around the Mandalika International Circuit and surprisingly hasn’t finished a race at the track.

If Marquez can win the Grand Prix of Indonesia this weekend, he will match Valentino Rossi‘s record for wins at 23 different circuits, which is only beaten by Mick Doohan with 24.

A win for the champion will mark his 100th grand prix victory across all classes, which would be a monumental milestone for the Spaniard.

The win would also see Marquez close in on the most successful Ducati riders of all time, with 15 wins, behind Casey Stoner (23) and Bagnaia (30)

It would also mark the Spaniard’s 12th victory in 2025, equalling his own record he set in 2019 that he shares with Mick Doohan’s 1997 victories. Marquez currently holds the most wins in one season with 13 victories in 2014.
