Jorge Martin’s Sprint race at the Catalan Grand Prix came to a premature end after Franco Morbidelli collected him following an off at turn 10.
The pair were running behind Aleix Espargaro towards the end of the pack on lap eight when Morbidelli attempted an opportunistic move on the 2024 world champion and ended both of their races early.
The incident comes after VR46 extended Morbidelli’s contract for another year. Fans weren’t happy about the decision by the Ducati satellite brand, with many believing that the 30-year-old hasn’t shown enough this season to deserve another year in the premier class.
The Italian rider wasn’t too worried about his future in the sport before the extension was announced, and had his sights firmly set on the 2026 MotoGP season.
Amid rumours that Ducati could field six factory bikes for all of their brands, Morbidelli expressed his joy at being able to ride the best possible machinery.

MotoGP fans believe Franco Morbidelli’s antics on track are getting ‘ridiculous’
Fans took to Reddit to share their fury about the incident between Morbidelli and Martin at turn 10 in the Catalan Grand Prix Sprint race. They were not happy with the VR46 rider, with one user commenting, “Everybody makes mistakes, but this is getting ridiculous.”
Another user replied to the comment, saying, “This wasn’t a mistake, that was an incredibly badly timed attempt.”
One Redditor noted Martin’s current situation of needing as much experience under racing conditions as possible to regain his feel for the sport due to the injuries sustained earlier in the year, commenting, “As if Martin doesn’t have enough problems getting back into the groove.”
Another user came to the defence of the Italian rider, noting, “Damn, Morbidelli has been making a lot of mistakes lately, I actually think he’s a cool guy.”
Another fan shared a similar sentiment to the amount of recent mistakes from Morbidelli, replying to the post with, “I swear he must have crashed into at least half the grid at this point.”
The VR46 rider’s aggressive nature also drew a comparison to Marc Marquez’s previous antics, with one Marquez fan saying, “People were hating Marc for half the stuff that Franco is doing.”

Alex Marquez threw away the lead of the race at the same corner as Franco Morbidelli and Jorge Martin’s incident
After stretching out a lead of nearly two seconds to his brother and the championship leader, Alex Marquez crashed out of the race with four laps remaining, handing Marc his eighth consecutive win in the Saturday Sprint races.
The younger Marquez had been in fine form all weekend up until that point, with his pole position lap in qualifying leaving Gavin Emmett in awe.
| Position | Rider | Team | Time/Gap |
| 1 | Marc Marquez | Ducati | 19:58.946 |
| 2 | Fabio Quartararo | Yamaha | +1.299 |
| 3 | Fabio Di Giannantonio | VR46 Racing | +3.653 |
| 4 | Pedro Acosta | KTM | +5.868 |
| 5 | Enea Bastianini | Tech3 | +5.913 |
The Spaniard was furious with himself after the incident, punching the ground in anger. The incident has pushed his brother even closer to securing his seventh MotoGP title at the next race weekend in Misano.
It also comes after a string of poor results from the 29-year-old. His Gresini teammate, Fermin Aldeguer, pinpointed the issue for Marquez, stating that recent circuits haven’t suited his style, which can explain the difference in results from the start of the season.
