‘Textbook’ rider was waiting for a call from Pramac to replace Jack Miller, but it never came

Pramac are yet to officially confirm their second rider for the 2026 MotoGP season after multiple delays to their decision-making process.

The Tuscany-based outfit have signed Toprak Razgatlioglu from World Superbikes for the 2026 season. This puts current riders Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira at risk of dropping off the grid at the end of 2025.

It has become increasingly clear that Oliveira will lose his seat after Yamaha activated a performance clause in his contract. Scoring just 10 points thus far in 2025, the Portuguese rider looks set to leave MotoGP, with Miller the favourite between the two to stay.

Pramac had planned to confirm their rider line-up after the summer break, but there has been no announcement as of yet after the Hungarian GP. Moto2 rider Diogo Moreira was linked with Yamaha, but he has opted to sign for Honda.

After they lost out on the Brazilian, Moto2 championship leader Manu Gonzalez was approached by Pramac over a possible move. The Spaniard impressed the MotoGP paddock with his Aragon test with Trackhouse Aprilia.

Manu Gonzalez was expecting a phone call from Pramac to replace Jack Miller but it never came

Miller has been growing agitated with Yamaha as they consider ‘more and more’ candidates for Razgatlioglu’s teammate. He even stated that he thinks the Japanese outfit do not want him, with Gonzalez seemingly up against him for the seat.

However, it appears that Miller has beaten Gonzalez to the seat and is set to retain his place in MotoGP for 2026. According to a report from Motorsport Espana, the Moto2 rider’s ‘representative’ had been ‘awaiting a call from Pramac’ about a potential deal.

But that phone call did not come for the 23-year-old. Gonzalez, who was described as ‘textbook’ by Neil Hodgson during the Austrian GP this season, looks set to sign a new contract with his Moto2 team Dynavolt Intact GP.

Yamaha’s Japanese bosses wanted to keep Miller, which is believed to have ‘saved’ his seat. Fabio Quartararo believes Miller will be ‘very useful’ for Yamaha in 2026, especially as they introduce their V4 bike later in the year.

How the MotoGP grid looks for the 2026 season with Jack Miller set to stay at Pramac

Miller is one of two riders waiting for official confirmation of their new contracts for the 2026 season. Moreira is set to join LCR on a three-year deal, with a view to joining the factory Honda team in 2027.

Miller could face his last chance in MotoGP in 2026. He will have certain boxes to tick, including beating his rookie teammate and developing the V4, to convince Pramac he should stay beyond next season.

Elsewhere on the MotoGP rider market, other teams in the paddock are starting to confirm their riders for 2026. Franco Morbidelli signed a new VR46 contract on Tuesday, with Valentino Rossi handing the Italian a one-year deal.

Honda have given new contracts to Luca Marini and Johann Zarco, with the former staying at HRC and the latter at LCR. Zarco has been given a two-year contract by the Japanese giants, putting him on equal treatment with Marini and Joan Mir.
