Jorge Martin finished the 2025 MotoGP Hungarian Grand Prix in fourth place with his best result as an Aprilia rider so far, but he left Balaton Park with a bigger realisation.
The Spaniard made just his fourth appearance of the 2025 MotoGP season and of his Aprilia career at Balaton Park last weekend in round 14 of this year’s planned 22. Martin joined the Noale squad at the start of 2025, but injuries and a contractual dispute have been the focus.
Martin’s Aprilia adventure started on the wrong path after he sustained fractures to his right hand and left foot in a crash on the opening day of the Sepang Test, before fracturing his left hand on a Supermoto, and then suffering 11 broken ribs and a hemopneumothorax in Qatar.
All the while Martin missed three months with his hemopneumothorax, the 27-year-old also strived to break his contract for Aprilia through the 2026 season. But Martin surrendered to Aprilia’s refusal to let him join Honda, with the release clause in his contract deemed invalid.

Jorge Martin realises that the Aprilia RS-GP25 gets ‘worse’ in qualifying if you ‘push’
Aprilia are now starting to see the rewards for their refusal to let Martin leave, with the 2024 riders’ champion securing P7 in the Czech Grand Prix plus P9 in the Balaton Park Sprint Race and P4 in the Hungarian GP. Martin crashed out of the Austrian GP at the high-speed Turn 7.

But Martin knows that more will be possible once he has clicked with the Aprilia RS-GP25 in qualifying, like teammate Marco Bezzecchi, after starting the Hungarian GP in P16. He was only 17th after qualifying but benefited from a grid penalty for Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller.
Bezzecchi also struggled in qualifying after joining Aprilia ahead of the 2025 season, but he has been the most consistent challenger for Ducati rival Marc Marquez during the past five races. The Italian was P2 in the Dutch and Czech Grands Prix and P3 in Austria and Hungary.
“Yes,” Martin told MOW about having to echo Bezzecchi’s learning curve at Aprilia. “I have to understand the bike in qualifying. The truth is that if you try to push this bike, things get worse. But if you ride smoothly and gently, the time will come.”
Jorge Martin will hope to put his new realisation into practice at the Catalan Grand Prix
Bezzecchi won the British GP at Silverstone this May for his breakthrough result as an Aprilia rider, having not finished higher than P6 across the six prior rounds. Yet the 26-year-old only qualified in P11 at Silverstone, with his qualifying breakthrough not coming until Assen (P5).

Aprilia have also seen Bezzecchi qualify P3 in Germany, P4 in Czechia, P1 in Austria and P2 in Hungary since his P5 during round 10 at the Dutch Grand Prix. Martin will now try to echo the Italian after he qualified in P12 at Brno, P14 at the Red Bull Ring and P17 at Balaton Park.
Martin also goes next to the Catalan Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which has generally been a strong track for Aprilia in recent years. So, he will no doubt hope to put his new realisation about how to utilise the RS-GP25 during qualifying into practice in Spain.
