What Yamaha are now saying about Jack Miller behind the scenes amid MotoGP future uncertainty

Jack Miller is one of four riders out of contract in 2025. The Aussie is fighting to stay on the grid with Pramac Yamaha.

Yamaha saved Miller’s MotoGP career after he left KTM in 2024. The 30-year-old would have likely left the sport if Pramac had not offered him a contract.

Having ridden for Honda, Ducati and KTM, Miller provides Yamaha with a bank of data to help build their project. However, his results in 2025, at face value, leave something to be desired.

He sits 17th in the standings with 19 points, having retired from the last three races. Miller had been fighting at the front last time out at Le Mans, before crashing out in the wet conditions.

Miller was ‘devastated’ by the crash as he trusted Pramac with the call to start the race on wet tyres. But despite his disappointing results on the track, Yamaha are keeping a positive outlook.

Yamaha have been ‘nothing but positive’ about Jack Miller amid future uncertainty

Gino Borsoi was amazed by Miller’s immediate adaptation to the YZR-M1 when he joined Pramac. The Aussie has made a serious impact on Yamaha behind the scenes, which could be key to securing his future in MotoGP.

Speaking via Pit Talk, journalist Matt Clayton says Yamaha are ‘nothing but positive’ about Miller. He thinks he is in a solid position to retain his seat with Pramac in 2026.

“I would actually suggest that, despite this run of form that he’s been on, I actually feel that he’s in a pretty good position to retain his seat for next year,” he said.

“Not necessarily for what he’s doing on the scoreboard. You mentioned it before about him getting to the ceiling of a bike really fast, we know he’s done that.

“Yamaha have been nothing but positive about the impact he’s having behind the scenes, with the testing of new parts and really driving the project forward.

“Because we forget with Jack, because he acts like he’s 18 a lot of the time, he’s 30 years old. He’s so experienced now because he’s had time with Honda and Ducati and KTM.

“He’s almost the perfect guy to have when you’ve got a new project.”

Yamaha may face difficulty replacing Jack Miller in 2026

Yamaha will decide on Miller’s future during the summer break as they assess their options for the 2026 season. Teammate Miguel Oliveira is also in doubt, despite having a two-year contract.

Pramac are pushing to sign Toprak Razgatlioglu, as the Turkish rider targets a move to MotoGP from World Superbikes. Enea Bastianini is also linked as he is already seeing a way out of KTM.

However, amidst the rumours, Borsoi imagines Miller will stay at Pramac. The Aussie’s experience is valuable for the team, especially when they plan to bring the V4 engine to the bike.

Even if Yamaha wanted to let the 30-year-old go, they may face difficulty. Miller is receiving ‘protection’ from Dorna CEO Carlos Ezpeleta, as it is vital the sport keeps an Australian rider on the grid.
