Pedro Acosta is the lead KTM rider in the 2025 standings ahead of the French Grand Prix, but he heads to Le Mans a distant 107 points behind Gresini ace Alex Marquez.

Only one single point separates the Marquez brothers atop the standings ahead of round six at Le Mans this weekend. Alex Marquez bagging his first premier class race win last time out at Jerez as Marc Marquez recovered to 12th after crashing saw the lead change hands again.

Both times the Gresini rider has taken the top spot from his Ducati star sibling have been by just a single point after Marc Marquez also fell. The 32-year-old’s crash at the Spanish Grand Prix even helped to open the door that saw Alex Marquez win his first MotoGP race at Jerez.

It also marked just the second time through the first five rounds of the 2025 MotoGP season that the elder Marquez brother did not win a Grand Prix. He also failed to take pole position for the first time since the six-time MotoGP champion switched Gresini for Ducati this term.

Pedro Acosta wishes he could look ‘into the future’ and see Alex Marquez win the 2025 MotoGP title

Acosta found Marc Marquez’s dominant start a ‘pleasure’ to watch, despite acknowledging it was a ‘strange’ position for the KTM racer to have about a rival rider running away with the top prize. The Ducati star opened the year with four straight poles and has won every Sprint.

But after seeing Alex Marquez capitalise on another mistake from his brother following Marc Marquez crashing in the lead of the Americas Grand Prix in round three, Acosta now says his ‘wish’ would be to look ahead and see the Gresini racer lifting the 2025 MotoGP riders’ title.

Acosta told Marca: “He’s the leader of the world championship, so I give him more [chance] than anyone. I wish I could see into the future and see that KTM are going to improve and that Alex Marquez is going to win the world championship.

“He’s doing a very good job. He’s the one who has made the fewest mistakes, except for the Qatar race, and I’d already agree that failing would mean finishing sixth.

“In terms of points, he has the best chance. He’s taking it with a lot of patience. Marc has won them all, but he crashed out of two. Alex is the most consistent, keeping his mistakes under control. A percentage? I’d give him 60 per cent.”

Acosta now sharing that his ‘wish’ would be to see Alex Marquez win the 2025 MotoGP title is seemingly a clear indication of the KTM ace changing his stance on it being a ‘pleasure’ to watch Marc Marquez dominating the premier class with Ducati after only a matter of weeks.

The 20-year-old only declared his joy in watching the 32-year-old take pole and win with the Borgo Panigale brand after Marc Marquez scored his fourth pole, fourth Sprint win and third Grand Prix victory across the first four rounds of the 2025 campaign at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Yet, just one round later, Acosta now sees Alex Marquez as the title favourite despite having just a point in hand over the 29-year-old’s vastly more successful brother. Consistency has certainly been Alex Marquez’s strength, with P2 in every Sprint and three Grands Prix so far.

The only time the Gresini ace has not finished a race in the top two ahead of the French GP at Le Mans this week came when Alex Marquez drew a long-lap penalty in the Qatar GP for causing a crash with Fabio di Giannantonio. He still recovered to P6 just 9.764s off the lead.
