Pedro Acosta makes ‘strange’ Marc Marquez claim after watching his start to the 2025 MotoGP season

Pedro Acosta hasn’t quite enjoyed the level of success he would have hoped to at the start of his tenure with KTM’s factory team.

The Spaniard has been plagued by a lack of pace, which has forced him into mistakes and cost him valuable points in multiple races – namely at the Grand Prix of Americas.

Acosta’s season should improve as MotoGP arrives in Europe. The tracks are tighter and slower, which should play to his bike’s advantages.

KTM will also bring upgrades aimed at eliminating their weaknesses, which could help re-establish them as the second-fastest team. Aiming for Ducati’s heights feels like a bit of a stretch.

According to fellow countryman Maverick Vinales, Acosta has ‘more desire’ than any KTM rider because he is so young.

The 20-year-old has drawn interest from other teams, but is under contract until the end of 2026. Acosta still has some growing up to do after recent comments towards his colleagues, but he has lots to learn still.

Pedro Acosta says it’s a ‘pleasure’ to see Marc Marquez doing well during the 2025 MotoGP season

With VR46 in the lead to sign Acosta, the pressure is on KTM to make meaningful changes quickly. Marc Marquez has already proven how fast things can change around this season.

After joining Ducati’s factory operation, he has been nearly faultless and leads the riders’ championship in his pursuit of a seventh title.

Speaking about his rival’s performance, Acosta was very complimentary about his lightning-fast start to 2025.

“It was easier for Marc because he’s a very experienced rider who’s been in MotoGP for many years,” he told Diario AS.

“It sounds strange, but it’s a pleasure to see how they’re doing. You’re behind them and you want to do the same. But I’m happy at KTM.”

Could Pedro Acosta be the biggest threat to Marc Marquez?

The future is always going to be the biggest challenge for one of the greatest MotoGP riders of all time, with Marquez already chasing the tag of oldest champion ever.

He will beat Valentino Rossi’s record in 2025 by two years if he triumphs, with the 32-year-old showing no signs of slowing down.

Meanwhile, Acosta is only going to improve and so should his situation. Whether that’s by joining a faster team or through developments, he will be a major threat soon.

For now, Marc’s biggest threat is brother Alex or teammate Francesco Bagnaia, but as shown before, it can all change in the blink of an eye.
