Alex Marquez told he has one Jorge Martin trait that will allow him to beat Marc Marquez this year

Alex Marquez has enjoyed a sensational start to the 2025 MotoGP season and leads the world championship after three races.

Nobody expected the Spaniard to be in this position considering Ducati’s MotoGP dominance, but he has managed to secure six consecutive second places on his way to the top.

His brother Marc Marquez had been exceptional too until he crashed during the Grand Prix of the Americas. He was 10 laps away from six of his own consecutive victories.

The younger Marquez is still chasing his maiden win, however, a much-improved Gresini bike for 2025 should offer him that sort of opportunity soon.

Marquez believes he is faster than Marc in right-hand corners, handing him an advantage on clockwise circuits this season.

In the process of improving his form, Marquez has ‘ordered’ Ducati to give him one thing. He wants the same training bike as both factory riders.

Alex Marquez told he has Jorge Martin’s ‘consistency’ which could help him beat Marc Marquez

Marquez ‘lost his temper’ over a question at the second race of the season in Argentina, when asked whether his brother would give him a free victory.

The six-time champion is a fierce competitor and that question almost answers itself. Alex is going to have to beat him on pure merit to come out on top.

2019 Moto E champion Matteo Ferrari believes that the younger Marquez shares a trait with reigning champion Jorge Martin which should help him in the fight with Marc.

“He is a two-time world championship winner and I think he can aspire to the title,” he told GPOne.

“Obviously, it won’t be easy, but he has consistency on his side, just like Martin last year. For sure Marc has some margin, but not a lot.”

Why Alex Marquez has every reason to be excited over the next few MotoGP races

Much of the talk has been about how the next few races suit Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia and how they will help bring him into the championship battle further.

Few have taken notice of the fact that the first three didn’t play to Alex’s strengths and that the next two races are ones he has performed very well at in recent seasons.

The upcoming Grand Prix of Qatar was the season-opener last year, where he managed a sixth place, two races on from achieving the same result there in 2023.

Then there’s the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, which too has been a particularly strong race. Perhaps he was boosted by his home support on the way to fourth place in 2024.

Either way, he seems to collect top-six finishes for fun at these tracks. He will be hoping for a little more this time around – maybe a first win comes at his home race?
