Jack Miller marvels at the change he’s seen in Marc Marquez’s body this season, ‘a racehorse’

Marc Marquez appears to be in better physical condition than ever at Ducati in 2025. And the Spaniard doesn’t even necessarily need to push flat out.

Marquez contemplated retiring from MotoGP after his injury hell as a Honda rider. He had to undergo multiple surgeries in the years following his 2020 Spanish Grand Prix accident.

But he left Honda to join Ducati satellite team Gresini because he ‘had to know’ whether he was still competitive. With three victories on a year-old bike, Marquez convinced Claudio Domenicali to promote him despite the Italian’s initial skepticism.

Domenicali has been immediately rewarded with two poles, two Sprint wins and two Grand Prix victories. Marquez hasn’t maintained a lights-to-flag lead in either Thailand or Buriram, dropping behind his brother Alex at both events, but the consensus is that he has time in his pocket if he really needs it.

Marquez looks more comfortable on a Ducati motorcycle, Peter Bom says, after adjusting his seating position. He may not be as electrifying to watch as he was in the past, but he looks far more stable.

Jack Miller says Marc Marquez’s physique has transformed at Ducati

Speaking on the Gypsy Tales podcast, Pramac rider Jack Miller said he was ‘happy’ for a resurgent Marquez. He’s seen first-hand the unique ‘aura’ surrounding the 32-year-old.

Stefan Bradl says Marquez’s fame separates him from Jorge Martin and the rest of his MotoGP rivals. He hasn’t won the title since 2019 but they still can’t touch him in that regard.

Miller, who entered the premier class two years after the Ant of Cevera, credited him for putting in ‘the work’. This is apparently evident in his physique.

Marquez looks leaner than ever, earning comparisons to a ‘racehorse’. It’s worth remembering that he’s the second-oldest rider on the grid behind LCR’s Johann Zarco.

“The dude is gnarly,” Miller said. “I’ve seen the aura about him. When we got off the plane in Thailand, we were on the charter coming home, and it’s just all the paddock basically [focused on him].

“I see the aura. I’ve seen it before, I’ve seen it before. It’s like deja vu, it’s like reincarnated. I’m happy for him, because I think nobody but him knows what he’s been through.

“I’m sure he’s been through the ringer. Say what you want, the guy’s put in the work. Look at the shape of him this year. He’s changed body, he looks lean as a racehorse. He’s ready to go.”

Marc Marquez has put big-name MotoGP rival off joining Ducati

Marquez remains ‘extraordinary’ in left-hand turns, Neil Hodgson says. This seems to give him an automatic advantage at anti-clockwise tracks.

The Circuit of the Americas, home of this weekend’s Grand Prix of the Americas, is one such example. Marquez has taken seven wins at the venue in the premier class, at least five more than any other rider.

Rivals had years to study his data and onboard footage, but they still haven’t been able to replicate his left-hander technique. Even teammate Francesco Bagnaia is ‘afraid’ he’ll never discover Marquez’s secret.

According to one recent report, Pedro Acosta won’t join Ducati while Marquez is there. That suggests he inspires a degree of fear rarely seen at the top level of motorsport.
