Marc Marquez currently leads the MotoGP standings by 16 points over his brother Alex after a stunning start to the season.

The factory Ducati rider has won both sprints and Grands Prix so far and has dominated the rest of the field.

Marquez took the leap to leave Honda after a miserable few seasons in 2023, joining the Gresini team for 2024.

It was there that he would rediscover his MotoGP form by claiming three victories. It relit the fire beneath the 32-year-old Spaniard.

Marquez is yet to face his ‘real test’ in 2025 according to Davide Tardozzi, after racing at tracks which suit his riding style.

The next best chance of competition may not be until the Qatar Grand Prix next month – that’s when Ducati think that Francesco Bagnaia will be ‘back’ fighting Marquez.

Marc Marquez has managed ‘extraordinary’ feat that his MotoGP rivals cannot match

The upcoming Grand Prix of the Americas is a track that should continue the six-time champion’s dominance. Between 2013 and 2018, he won six consecutive times at the track.

TNT Sport’s Neil Hodgson believes that Marquez has managed something extraordinary throughout his career which none of his rivals have been able to match.

“Cal Crutchlow and Frankie Carchedi have told us that it’s extraordinary what he can do in left-hand turns. No one else can do that,” he said.

“It’s the body position, the rear brake, the confidence to open the throttle and keep cornering. Looking back on Marc’s career, people didn’t realise how good he was.”

It has been six years since he was involved in a real title fight, the last of his titles with Honda back in 2019 in a season which was his greatest ever. He didn’t finish below second all year.

Who is Marc Marquez’s closest MotoGP challenger in 2025?

Despite enduring multiple injuries, falls and tricky times at Honda, he stuck around longer than he probably should have. He’s a very loyal rider.

Marquez wasn’t right for Ducati in 2023 according to their CEO, who needed to see that he could make fewer mistakes.

Now they have themselves a rider who wants to and believes that he can win all 44 races during the 2025 season.

His closest competitor is likely to be brother Alex, who has been second and not far behind him at all at both races this year.

Marquez used three words to describe chasing Alex which is unfamiliar territory, considering that they have typically been separated by a fairly big margin. They will fight again on multiple occasions this year.
