Marc Marquez’s blistering start to the 2025 MotoGP has caught some by surprise, but there’s another storyline which has been equally stunning.
Nobody expected Alex Marquez to be in contention for race victories this year, let alone be the closest challenger to his brother for the title.
So far, Alex looks to be the only man capable of stopping the older Marquez brother after finishing second behind him in each of the first two races.
Ducati’s dominant bike rides well currently, but not for veteran two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia who is yet to finish higher than third.
The younger Marquez lost his temper after being asked a question about Marc and said that he would never expect a gifted win at the highest level of motorsport.
Marquez has been warned about Alex and knows that he has found both his confidence and form at the right time.

Marc Marquez describes Alex Marquez Argentina Grand Prix chase in just three words
After running too deep and making a mistake on lap four, Alex was able to pass Marc and hold the lead for a further 17 laps.
As he did in Thailand, he toyed with him by saving his tyres for much of the Argentina Grand Prix before making the late pass and sailing into the distance.
In a story post on his Instagram, Marc admitted that he may still be slightly surprised by the idea that he is battling his brother at the front of the MotoGP pack.
“Realidad o IA?” he wrote, which translates to ‘Real or AI?” in English. They’re yet to engage in any real battles on track, and it may become even more surreal if they fight for a win.
There’s a 16-point gap in the riders’ championship, which could change in an instant. A title battle would make Julia Marquez privately nervous.
Marc Marquez shares one reason why he feels like a world champion at Ducati already
With 20 races to go, there are plenty of opportunities for slip-ups and mistakes. Marc has been otherwise faultless in 2025 apart from running wide in Argentina.
Marquez already feels like a champion in 2025 after sharing the podium with his brother. It was a special moment for their family.
With the amount of pressure applied over the last two races, and how close Alex can remain over the Grands Prix, he should get a chance at victory soon.
It would be a surprise if a Gresini doesn’t step onto the top of the podium by the end of 2025. His teammate Fermin Aldeguer is unlikely to be the rider doing so after struggling in the first two races.
