Luigi Dall’Igna believes that Pedro Acosta’s ‘respect’ is his best quality in MotoGP, and that it is better than most of the grid.

Acosta will join Ducati in 2027, replacing Francesco Bagnaia on a two-year deal. The Shark has longed for a competitive bike, with KTM being unable to give him the tools to win a race yet.

Ducati will certainly give him that opportunity. The Bologna Bullets view Acosta as the future of the team and the sport, and they are already aware of the qualities he has.

Luigi Dall’Igna says Pedro Acosta respects his rivals more than most MotoGP riders

Acosta will be part of an all-Spanish line-up at Ducati in 2027 as he shares the garage with Marc Marquez. The 22-year-old has wanted to have equal machinery with his countryman and take the fight to him.

Many are tipping the two to clash, having had strong battles with one another in 2026. But Acosta insists there is no ‘rivalry’ with Marquez, which highlights the respect he shows for his fellow riders.

Ducati chief Dall’Igna was asked by SPORT about the KTM rider’s best quality. He praised the respect he has for his rivals, saying that he does it better than others.

He said: “I think he respects his rivals. In my opinion, more so than most riders.”

Dall’Igna then added: “In any case, you know, with Pecco and Marc we already have two top riders, two champions on our team, and so I don’t think anything will change for the future.

“Our philosophy is clear. Our philosophy has brought us this far and we don’t want to change it too much.”

Has MotoGP gone too far with bike innovations or is rider talent still the deciding factor?

Luigi Dall’Igna says Ducati’s main focus on 2027 with be the Pirelli tyres

Speaking about 2027 and the upcoming regulation changes, Dall’Igna pointed out the challenge of adapting to the Pirelli tyres and the differences they have from the Michelins.

“I think the biggest change will be the tyres. With the change of manufacturer, the tyre philosophy changes completely.

“The two suppliers have very different approaches to how a bike should perform. Both produce great tyres, but each demands a different bike. That will probably be the main focus of our work.”
