MotoGP fans are united in their view that Marc Marquez was in “cruise control” as he won the 2026 German Grand Prix Sprint Race and eclipsed Jorge Martin’s record haul.
The King of the Sachsenring once again showed why he is feared around the circuit set in an industrial park in Saxony this Saturday. Marquez enjoyed a perfect day at the German GP, as the Ducati star scored pole position in the morning and sealed a controlled win in the Sprint.
Marquez beat his brother Alex in both sessions on Saturday, with the Gresini racer having to settle for second place by a mere 0.061 seconds in qualifying and 0.368s in the Sprint. Marc Marquez sealed pole for the German GP with a new lap record, too, after setting a 1:19.041.
Marc Marquez remains the man to beat at the German Grand Prix, but who was your rider of the Sprint race?
MotoGP fans think Marc Marquez won the German Grand Prix Sprint at ‘80%’
Marc Marquez used edging his brother Alex Marquez to pole for the German GP to keep the lead of the Sprint Race into Turn 1. Whenever his younger sibling strived to get the lead, the 33-year-old also proved he had the 30-year-old beat as he managed the gap between them.

Alex often found chances to eye what would have been ambitious overtakes under braking, but could never get close enough to Marc to feel comfortable about making a lunge. VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio even threatened to steal P2 away from Alex at the end of the Sprint.
Di Giannantonio taking Alex’s attention at the end of the 15 laps helped to ensure that Marc Marquez won the Sprint at the German GP and, with it, became the most successful rider in Sprint Race history. Marc now has 19 Sprint wins in his account, one more than Martin has.
And many MotoGP fans on Reddit even think Marc Marquez was operating at just “80%” en route to winning the Sprint at the German GP. One fan said in response to Marquez’s Sprint win, “It looked like he was riding at 80%,” and one said, “He had some juice left in the tank.”
A MotoGP fan also stated, “Agree! He had everything under control since Lap 1,” while one said, “Chilling in this Sprint. He is doing the bare minimum to win.” A fan also said, “Marc is on cruise control the entire time,” and one said, “It didn’t even look like he was sweating.”
One MotoGP fan also raised the question of whether Marquez was simply saving himself for Sunday’s German GP by not pushing to his absolute limits during the Sprint Race. They said: “I think Marc was cruising and saving his energy for tomorrow.”
Marquez is still on the road to recovery following his recent surgery to solve a nerve issue in his shoulder. The Cervera native underwent an operation in May to remove two bent screws and a bone fragment, as the screws were stopping him from riding naturally earlier in 2026.
Ducati boss Davide Tardozzi is adamant that Marquez is still not fully fit, and that his body is preventing the 33-year-old from using the Desmosedici GP26 as naturally as he would want.
It will be very telling on Sunday whether Marquez is able to push his body more than he did during the Sprint, or whether his reserved pace – which was still enough to beat his brother Alex to pole position and the Sprint victory – was a sign that his right arm is still not fully fit.
