MotoGP makes its yearly visit to the Sachsenring for the 2026 German Grand Prix this weekend, so here is everything you need to know from how to watch to the schedule.
The Sachsenring has been MotoGP’s sole home in Germany since 1998, and it will also be on the calendar through at least 2031 despite suggestions in recent years that the premier class has outgrown the tiny circuit in Saxony. It is the shortest track that MotoGP visits at 3,671m.
While the Sachsenring is a favourite venue among fans, MotoGP bikes now reach speeds far exceeding what the narrow track can accommodate. The 2025 German Grand Prix even saw only 10 riders hit the finish, as well, as eight riders fell on the back of a crash-strewn Sprint.
MotoGP will hope to see more riders take the finish in the 2026 German GP. And the feeling will be echoed in the Aprilia garage after Marco Bezzecchi lost the lead of the championship to teammate Jorge Martin after failing to finish the Dutch Grand Prix at the TT Circuit Assen.
Predict the podium at the German Grand Prix this weekend 🔮
Martin now goes to the German GP sitting atop the standings for the first time since he won the 2024 title. The Spaniard holds a seven-point lead over Bezzecchi, while VR46 ace Fabio Di Giannantonio and Trackhouse’s Dutch GP winner Ai Ogura are 16 and 25 points behind.
Ducati rider Marc Marquez is the King of the Sachsenring, though, with 12 German GP wins over the three world championship classes. Marquez won the 2025 German GP, too, for his record ninth premier class win at the Sachsenring. He also went unbeaten at the German GP from his 125cc victory in 2010, Moto2 wins in 2011 and 2012 and through 2019 in MotoGP.
One man who is not heading to the Sachsenring, however, is Gresini rider Fermain Aldeguer. Gresini have confirmed that Aldeguer will sit out the German GP and that they will not have a replacement rider, after the Spaniard sustained a T7 vertebra fracture in practice at Assen.
So, with that in mind, MotoGP News takes a look at everything that you need to know about the 2026 German Grand Prix, from how to watch on TV to the Sachsenring weather forecast.

What is the weather forecast for the 2026 MotoGP German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring?
The pre-event weather forecast shows dry conditions throughout the 2026 MotoGP German Grand Prix event, despite rain lingering on the horizon throughout Wednesday and Thursday at the Sachsenring. The high winds expected earlier in the week should also fall for MotoGP.
Friday should yield the coolest conditions all weekend for MotoGP, with the forecast for FP1 predicting conditions in the region of 20°C due to the cloud cover. The temperature will rise slightly once the skies clear, with the forecast predicting 22°C for the timed practice session.
Temperatures in the region of 22°C are also forecast for qualifying for the German GP, and it will continue to rise to around 24°C for the Sprint at the Sachsenring this Saturday. Sunday’s German GP is even forecast to take place in the hottest conditions all week, at around 25°C.
Where is the MotoGP German Grand Prix held?

MotoGP has held the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, set in the town of Hohenstein-Ernstthal in Saxony, every year since 1998 (except for in 2020 owing to the Covid pandemic). The Sachsenring also held its first premier class 500cc motorcycle Grand Prix back in 1953.
The MotoGP German GP has even previously been staged at Solitude, the Schottenring, the Nurburgring Nordschleife, Hockenheim, on the Nurburgring’s Sudschleife circuit and on the Nurburgring’s Grand Prix Strecke track since the race’s debut as a 500cc Grand Prix in 1951.
The Sachsenring is the smallest circuit on the MotoGP calendar at 3,671 metres – meaning a race distance of even 30 laps covers 110.13km (68.4mi). In contrast, the British Grand Prix is only 20 laps but it covers a distance of 118km (73.3mi), as Silverstone is 5.9km (3.6mi) long.
How narrow the Sachsenring is, plus the lack of space to extend the run-off areas due to the circuit being situated on the edge of an industrial park, often brings into question how much longer the track will be suitable for MotoGP races due to the number of crashes seen yearly.
One rider who loves the Sachsenring more than most, however, is Marc Marquez, as he can utilise his unique ability in left-hand turns to master the German GP venue. The Sachsenring has a total of 13 corners, but only Turns 1, 3 and 11 are right-handers. Riders do not have to even use the right-hand side of their tyres from the exit of Turn 3 until the downhill Turn 11.
Who won the last MotoGP German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring in 2025?
What is Marc Marquez’s BEST win at the German Grand Prix?
Marquez has won TWELVE times at the Sachsenring across his Grand Prix career!
Marc Marquez won the last MotoGP German Grand Prix in 2025, as the Ducati rider enjoyed a perfect weekend at the Sachsenring after also scoring pole position and winning the Sprint Race. The 2025 German GP fell in the middle of Marquez’s run of seven successive doubles.
LCR Honda rider Johann Zarco was Marquez’s nearest rival in a wet qualifying session at the 2025 German GP. But the Frenchman came up 0.151 seconds short, as Marquez scored pole at the Sachsenring in 2025 with a 1:27.811 lap. Even running very deep at Turn 1 at the start of a wet Sprint last season was not enough to stop Marquez from winning the Sprint, either.
The 2025 German GP also saw a Marquez one-two, as Marc and Alex survived an attritional race to finish first and second with the elder brother taking the chequered flag 6.380s down the road. Alex held off Francesco Bagnaia for P2 and P3, with Fabio Quartararo a distant P4.
