Davide Tardozzi says people do not truly understand the extent of Marc Marquez’s injuries. Ducati’s data exposes just how serious they are.
It has been well-documented that the Spaniard has been struggling with the effects of his crash in Indonesia last year. After fracturing his right shoulder, Marquez had been suffering from nerve damage caused by a loose screw in his arm.
A highside at Le Mans forced him into surgery that was already planned. Since his return, Marquez is back in the title picture in 2026 after winning at Balaton Park and Brno. However, the seriousness of his injuries is perhaps going unnoticed.

Davide Tardozzi says Ducati’s data proves Marc Marquez still has a ‘serious problem’ with the right side of his body
Marquez has been far more cautious with his approach since returning to the track. While he has grabbed two wins and now sits 40 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin since his surgery, he has been taking it easy.
Marquez protected himself at Ducati’s Race of Champions event at Misano, riding miles off the pace to conserve his energy for his MotoGP title defence.
Tardozzi confirmed this to GPOne ahead of the race, saying that he will not push hard so he can keep himself physically fit. The Ducati team manager analysed Marquez’s approach to his ‘serious problems’ on his right side, which people still do not fully understand.

“Marc will be focused on his championship during the Race of Champions,” said Tardozzi. “This year’s ROC will be a bit of a letdown because Marc can’t push too hard.
“He’s won two of the last three races, but people don’t fully understand just how much of an exception that was and what a hero he’s been. He did what his body wouldn’t allow him to do.
“He has a love-hate relationship with his injury; he has to pamper and manage it, but then, of course, he gets angry because he knows full well that without that problem, he could be even stronger.
What is Marc Marquez’s BEST win at the German Grand Prix?
Marquez has won TWELVE times at the Sachsenring across his Grand Prix career!
“I believe that Marc, being a smart guy, sees things very clearly. He’s figured out how to manage his body in the best way possible.
“People don’t believe it, but Marc has a really serious problem with his right side—both his arm and his shoulder. Just watch how he takes right- and left-hand turns—you’ll see he doesn’t move his arms the same way.
“We can see the difference in speed from the data, and I can tell you that if he did on the right what he does on the left… well, that’s it.”
Marquez has become less instinctive as he changes his riding style. It is just another measure he is taking to ensure that he stays 100% fit and that his racing career can continue for a few years to come.
