KTM have announced that Pedro Acosta has undergone a successful operation on his right wrist to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but he is not expected to miss any races.
Acosta revealed following last Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix at the TT Circuit Assen that he had arranged to have the operation, having been forced to retire from the race. The 22-year-old abruptly withdrew from last Sunday’s race while he was running in sixth place on Lap 13/26.
Early assumptions suggested that Acosta had endured yet another reliability problem, as the KTM rider’s RC16 has suddenly cut out on him several times at recent races. But he revealed after the race that his wrist became numb, hence why he was spotted shaking it on the bike.
What effect will Pedro Acosta’s recent surgery have on the rest of his 2026 MotoGP season?

Acosta initially planned to have an operation to treat his Carpal Tunnel Syndrome during the upcoming summer break, which follows the next round in Germany. However, the problems he encountered during the Dutch GP saw the Mazarron native bring forward the operation.

KTM have now confirmed on the Tuesday after the Dutch GP that Acosta has undergone the “minor” operation, and the team expects him to return for the German Grand Prix on July 10-12. Acosta will require a medical check at the Sachsenring before he is declared fit to race.
“Pedro Acosta underwent successful minor surgery this morning on his right wrist to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,” a KTM statement read. “He is expected to return for the German GP, pending a medical check next week.”
Acosta had been dealing with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for the best part of the last year, with it also causing him problems during the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi. The Spaniard’s fingers went numb that time and the loss of feeling meant he could not hold onto the brake.
The issue had developed since last season’s trip to Japan, leading to what 2027 Ducati rider Acosta admitted was the “worst case” of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome that he “ever had”, thus requiring the soon-to-be departing KTM rider to undergo surgery on his wrist this Tuesday.
Despite the injury, Acosta has still enjoyed a strong season so far and is seventh in the riders’ standings on 133 points through 10 rounds. He trails new championship leader Jorge Martin by 60 points, though, after retiring in the recent Grands Prix in Czechia and the Netherlands.
