Marc Marquez has sent his best wishes to Marco Bezzecchi after he crashed violently at the Dutch Grand Prix.

The Aprilia rider was in the mix for the podium places when he lost the front of his RS-GP at turn 15 on lap three. He was sent rolling across the gravel in a huge crash.

Reporters in the media centre ‘jeered’ as Bezzecchi crashed, with the Italian losing the lead of the championship to Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin. The other three RS-GPs locked out the podium, with Marquez only managing P7.

Marc Marquez hopes Marco Bezzecchi is OK after Dutch Grand Prix

Assen is typically not one of the Ducati rider’s strongest tracks. Dani Pedrosa was ‘concerned’ for Marquez’s fitness after watching him in the Sprint, but he would have no major issues on Sunday.

He fell back behind the Aprilias and crossed the line P6 after a tense battle with Fabio Di Giannantonio. Marquez was later relegated to P7 for track infringements.

Speaking to TNT Sports 2 after the race, the Spaniard explained that he aimed to get through the weekend unscathed, knowing the potential dangers of the circuit. He expressed his best wishes to Bezzecchi after his huge accident.

He said: “I mean, today was tricky. All weekend it was difficult, but the most important [thing] is that we escaped this weekend healthy, without injuries.

“We understand during the weekend that the rider that crashed and entered on the gravel in a fast way gets injured, like Fermin and today, Bezzecchi, I hope he’s OK.

“My target was to escape from this weekend without injury. We didn’t get the maximum because I think the maximum was P5. But OK, P7, [it] doesn’t change our lives.”

Jorge Martin was ‘really scared’ after seeing Marco Bezzecchi’s crash

Aprilia teammate Martin also spoke of the crash on TNT Sports 2, saying that he was ‘really scared’ after seeing the footage.

“Very happy. Anyway, the first thing I want to say is my strength to Marco. I saw his crash and I was really scared because that’s one of the fastest places to crash.

“I saw a nasty crash, so I hope that he recovers well and will be at the Sachsenring at 100%, so all my strength to him.”
