The marshal, named Ladislav, spoke to TNT Sports about the shocking incident. He explained that he was just trying to do his job and retrieve the bike, but he understood Bezzecchi’s situation.

Asked how he was, he replied: “Yeah, I’m OK. I mean, at that moment I was a bit shocked, and at night, with the wave of the video and all the fans seeing it, I mean, the whole world, I was really down, because it’s something new for me.”

He then explained the situation: “I mean, he was surely stressed and I understand his situation. He crashed, so I did my job. I went for the bike and I picked it up.

“I pressed the clutch and tried to pick it up because it was still on, and the bike started rolling. So I wanted to put it back down and it revved up.

“He probably thought that I did it on purpose. It was a pure accident and then everyone saw what happened.”

Bezzecchi formally apologised for his actions. Asked if he saw the apology and if the Italian had spoken to him, Ladislav added: “Yes, I have seen it and he just came to me and apologised to me in person. So, I mean, I understand him and I wish him the best of luck.”

Massimo Rivola responds to Marco Bezzecchi hitting Czech Grand Prix marshal

Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola issued a statement on the incident, accepting the penalty given to his rider.

He wrote: “First of all, we also want to apologise to the marshal. Second, we accept the penalty, we don’t tolerate this kind of behaviour.

“The reason why we appealed at the beginning was that we felt the disproportion from the action to the penalty according to what we saw in other cases, similar cases in the past.

“But that’s it. So now we look forward to Assen.”
