Jorge Martin has detailed just how impressive Jack Miller is on a motocross bike, highlighting how he can’t even get to within ‘three or four seconds’ of the veteran MotoGP rider.
Motocross is often considered the best training tool for MotoGP riders, due to the fact that they can’t take part in their own testing days atop the prototype machinery they use to compete with in the premier class.

The art of training with motocross bikes aids riders in training their skill on two wheels with next to no grip underneath them, as well as refining muscle memory and overall conditioning.
According to the 2024 MotoGP world champion, Jorge Martin, no one comes close to replicating the skill of Pramac Racing’s Jack Miller.

Jorge Martin reveals how ‘strong’ Jack Miller is on a motocross bike
In an appearance on the Gypsy Tales podcast, Martin was asked about his experience with motocross machinery, as well as how he uses his time on the dirt bikes to supplement his efforts in MotoGP.
“So I started in 2013, I think it was,” he began. “A friend of my dad’s gave us a KTM from 2007, because we had no money to buy one. He was good, and he gave it to me for training, as I didn’t have a motorbike.
Does Jack Miller still have the talent to fight further up the grid?
“I just had a pit bike, like a really small bike on a karting [track]. And that’s how I arrived at Moto3, so after that, I started doing some motocross. You know, I wasn’t super, but after a few years, I started to get the technique.
“I have the instinct, so, you know, the throttle is always open, even if I always say spin. But yeah, I love to train motocross and to make some whips.”
After being told by the host that he rides fairly well on a motocross bike, Martin added, “I’m not super fast, let’s say, compared to Jack Miller, who is super strong.
“I feel I lose three or four seconds, but anyway, for me, it’s good enough. I enjoy it, and I can do my runs of 25-30 minutes, which is good training.”

Motocross is a key element of Valentino Rossi’s training of the VR46 Riders’ Academy
The discipline is a key part of Valentino Rossi’s training of the next generation of Italian riders in Grand Prix motorcycle racing. The MotoGP legend’s iconic Tavullia-based ranch houses a 2.5km dirt track that is often used to put young riders through their paces.
The VR46 Riders’ Academy have seen the likes of Francesco Bagnaia and Marco Bezzecchi come through the ranks and cement themselves as proven race winners, with the former even going on to win two world championships in the premier class.
As such, it is an integral part of their training regime, with Rossi recently highlighting Moto2 rider Senna Agius as one to watch following a ‘super impressive’ appearance at the ranch.
