Pedro Acosta gave it all against Marc Marquez, but it wasn’t enough to get the better of him – and the KTM rider knew that going in.

Even though Marquez beat Acosta in the sprint, there was a level of excitement about the two future teammates going at it in the race on Sunday.

But the race was more of the same for Acosta, who did his best to push the Ducati rider to his limit, but couldn’t stop Marquez from winning the Hungarian Grand Prix.

WHAT A BATTLE! 😍 How far is Pedro Acosta off Marc Marquez in terms of talent?

Their duel served as an excellent appetiser for what is to come when they both share the same bike next season as Ducati teammates.

But Marquez could be in for a surprise next season, as Acosta is well aware of the fact that his KTM bike just can’t compete with Ducati.

Mat Oxley claims Pedro Acosta conceded against Marc Marquez because he ‘knows’ KTM can’t beat Ducati

Speaking on the Oxley Bom podcast, Mat Oxley claimed that Pedro Acosta couldn’t beat Marc Marquez in their battle at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and realised this before pulling away.

Oxley also predicted that when the two are teammates at Ducati next season, their battles are going to ramp up in intensity.

“The thing is, we say they’re doing it with respect, and they are But Acosta knows he’s not on the best (bike). He’s got a technical deficit. Marc knows he’s got a technical superiority.

“I think it might be less friendly once they’re on the same bike. You know what I mean? Acosta knows he’s going to lose at the moment. His bike is not good enough to beat Marquez.

“So he gives in a little bit before he would otherwise, because he knows he’s not fighting with the same weapon. He’s bringing a knife to a gunfight. I think once they’re on the same bike, it’ll get a bit spicier.”

Pedro Acosta will benefit from Ducati upgrade next season

There is no denying just how impressive Acosta’s ability to battle against Marquez was, especially considering how much weaker KTM’s bike is compared to Ducati’s.

Acosta will trade in KTM’s inconsistency for Ducati’s reliability, and it will give him a chance to show exactly what he can do when he has a bike that can deliver at the highest level.

Marc Marquez pretty much confirmed Acosta’s Ducati move for next season, so it appears the veteran rider knows what he is up against next season.

But it will be interesting to see how their battle pans out next season, and whether it will create an intra-team battle within Ducati.
