Marc Marquez was left saying ‘thanks’ after he saw his brother, Alex Marquez, suffered a horrendous accident at the Catalan Grand Prix.

The Ant of Cervera watched on from the sidelines after undergoing surgery for his injuries sustained in his Sprint crash at Le Mans. But Marquez would see a chaotic race at the Catalan Grand Prix that was marred by serious crashes for his brother and Johann Zarco.

Was it right to restart the Catalan GP after two big accidents?

On lap 12, while chasing Pedro Acosta for the lead, Alex Marquez hit the back of the KTM after its engine suddenly cut out. He was sent smashing into the wall as his bike disintegrated and flew into the path of oncoming riders, collecting Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Marquez was conscious after the crash and was taken to the medical centre before leaving the circuit for the hospital. Following an immediate red flag, the race resumed, only for Zarco to suffer a nasty crash at turn one as he got stuck in Pecco Bagnaia’s Ducati.

The red flag was raised again as the LCR rider was taken to hospital. Di Giannantonio ended up winning for VR46, but the attention was all on the injured riders.

Fortunately, Gresini said Alex Marquez was ‘fine’, with the Spaniard, and later Zarco, confirming this via social media. The former sustained a C7 fracture and underwent surgery on Sunday, while the latter suffered ligament damage to his knee and a small fracture to his fibula.

Marc Marquez reacted to the weekend on his Instagram story, and he had only four words to say after such a horrific ordeal in Barcelona. He wrote in Spanish: “Hoy solo doy gracias,” which translates to: “Today, I’m just giving thanks.”

The Ducati rider later commented on Alex Marquez and Zarco’s Instagram posts, showing his support for the riders. He posted a praying hands and red heart emoji to his brother, and a flexing muscle and praying hands emoji to the Frenchman.
