Johann Zarco had a scary crash at the Catalan Grand Prix with Luca Marini, and had to be taken to a local hospital after the race.

Zarco’s crash came moments after the race was restarted following a red flag due to Alex Marquez’s horrifying crash at the Catalan Grand Prix.

The collision between Zarco and Marini led to a second restart, after which Fabio Di Giannantonio went on to win the race.

Lucio Cecchinello gives update on Johann Zarco’s condition after brutal crash at Catalan GP

Speaking to TNT Sports after the Catalan Grand Prix, Honda LCR boss Lucio Cecchinello was asked to provide an update on Johann Zarco’s condition.

While there was no confirmed prognosis for the French rider, Cecchinello confirmed that he had sustained a knee injury and that they would know more once the tests were complete.

“At the moment, he has been taken to the local hospital. They will perform an MRI and a scan. He has pain in the left leg.”

“He has pain around the knee, but fortunately, he has no concussion, he has no injury in the upper part of the body, in the feet or the ankle.

“He has pain in just the femur area. We hope there’s no bad news coming.”

Honda boss laments tragic end to Catalan Grand Prix weekend

Speaking further in the interview, Cecchinello spoke about how poorly the weekend ended for the team after what was a positive start to proceedings.

“It was a perfect weekend for us. Fifth in practice, fifth in qualifying, and fifth in the sprint race… It was a real pity that our weekend ended like this.”

Right now, the priority for Honda will be the health and safety of Zarco. But there is an understandable level of frustration over the results of the weekend.

It looked very much like Zarco used his strong French GP performance to build momentum heading into the race today.

Fortunately, Diogo Moreira was able to salvage some points for the team with a 10th-place finish. But this is far from the result the side were hoping for in Barcelona.
