One MotoGP rider will be ‘in pain all year’ after deciding to postpone his surgery

It appears one rider isn’t learning his lesson from Marc Marquez’s torrid 2026 season and is opting to continue this year with a great deal of pain.

Despite being one of the most coveted prospects in recent MotoGP history, Fermin Aldeguer appears to be playing a risky game with his career.

Riding a GP25 this season thanks to Alex Marquez’s strong performance in the championship battle last season, Aldeguer is learning why Francesco Bagnaia struggled with the same bike last year.

Fermin Aldeguer and Alex Marquez are both expected to leave Gresini – Which riders should they sign to replace them in 2027?

And this has led to the Gresini rider picking up some injury issues this year, as has been evident in his inability to perform well this season.

But with Aldeguer set to join VR46 next year, the Spanish rider is content to see out the rest of this season with an injury so he can get surgery and be healthy for the 2027 MotoGP season.

Fermin Aldeguer willing to ‘endure’ injury issues with Gresini to not jeopardise 2027 move to VR46

MotoGP reporter Mela Chercoles revealed to Nico Abad that Fermin Aldeguer is currently dealing with a lot of pain this season.

However, he doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon, willing to endure the pain and get surgery in the offseason before he makes the jump to VR46 in 2027.

“He’s in pain. And he knows he’ll be in pain all year… At the end of the season (when Fermin will get surgery).

“He’s going to endure all the pain until the end of the season. No worries about his future. He is set to be a VR46 rider.”

Aldeguer’s move has caused some internal strife for Ducati, as their other satellite team and Aldeguer’s current home, Gresini, are not happy with VR46 and the way this situation was handled.

And with Aldeguer set to jeopardise his performances in his final year with Gresini by riding through injuries, this latest wrinkle is sure to exacerbate these issues.

Fermin Aldeguer might not be able to achieve strong performance this season

If Chercoles’ reporting is accurate, Fermin Aldeguer is set to have a very difficult 2026 season going forward.

Marc Marquez’s struggles with injury this season have shown how even the best of riders can be completely held back by the pain that they’re suffering through.

What makes this decision to delay surgery until after the season even more perplexing is the fact that Aldeguer has seen what postponing treatment can do to his career and performances.

Perhaps Aldeguer believes he is young enough to afford a bad season and ride through pain without suffering any long-term damage to his physical health or to his career.

But should his injury situation get worse, it is fair to imagine Aldeguer will reconsider his stance on getting surgery, so as not to jeopardise what could be a lucrative move to VR46.
