In the aftermath of Jorge Martin winning the French Grand Prix, MotoGP News tallied the results of our poll asking whether he would regret his 2027 move to Yamaha.
Martin’s stellar win at the French Grand Prix allowed the Aprilia rider to close the gap between himself and his teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, to just one point to just one point in the championship standings.
It was a statement win from Martin, who reminded everyone just how great a rider he can be after a difficult period with Aprilia.
Marco Bezzecchi’s championship lead is down to just ONE point! Which Aprilia rider will score more points?
After the race, Massimo Rivola revealed how he convinced Martin to stay with Aprilia during the previous year’s race at Le Mans.
But with news emerging this year that he is set to join Yamaha next season, many were concerned that Jorge Martin made the wrong move for his career.

87% of MotoGP fans think Jorge Martin will regret leaving ‘awesome’ Aprilia for Yamaha in 2027
A few weeks ago, MotoGP News asked fans on TalkingPoints a simple question – Would Jorge Martin regret leaving Aprilia for Yamaha in 2027?
With reports emerging that Martin would replace Fabio Quartararo at Yamaha next year, coupled with the Spanish rider’s strong start to the season, there was concern that he made the wrong choice.
When posed with this question, 87% of over 200 fans stated overwhelmingly that Martin would not be happy with his decision to join Yamaha a year from now.
One fan explained the problem with Yamaha, noting, “Yes, but not because of the bike. Because of the team’s chemistry and how they handle problems.”
Another fan echoed this sentiment, adding, “Of course, he will regret it. With Yamaha, there is no light at the end of the tunnel, but he will be paid better.”
There was one fan who suggested Martin should be more grateful to Aprilia, claiming, “Jorge should stay with Aprilia. They built him an awesome winning machine and let him heal up enough to prove his mettle.”
Clearly, the vast majority of MotoGP fans believe that Martin has made a bad decision to join Yamaha rather than stay with Aprilia.
And in the aftermath of his stellar performance at Le Mans, there is a genuine worry that this season could be the last time Martin will be in title contention for quite some time.

Aprilia still hopeful they can convince Jorge Martin to stay
While the reporting on Martin’s move to Yamaha has been pretty accurate, there is no confirmation that he has put pen to paper with the Japanese team.
Within the team, Aprilia are hoping to convince Martin to stay, much like Rivola did when the Spanish rider asked to leave in 2025.
And with Aprilia not intervening in Martin and Bezzecchi’s title fight by favouring one rider over the other, this approach suggests that they aren’t ready to alienate the rider just yet.
Martin has shown his brilliant ability over the weekend, and reminded Aprilia why they rate him so highly. This could be the push they need to prioritise retaining him.
Do Aprilia have enough time to convince Jorge Martin to make a U-turn and stay with the team? It might seem too late, but the team will still make an effort just in case.
