Marc Marquez’s crash at Le Mans has left many worried about his future in MotoGP, but Ducati insist that he is committed to the team for the next two years.
The Spaniard underwent surgery on his right shoulder and foot on Sunday. Marquez was scheduled to have one on his shoulder anyway, due to the complications he has been facing in MotoGP this season.
However, the situation worsened after Marquez’s violent highside during the Sprint at the French Grand Prix. He suffered a fracture to his foot and has been ruled out for the next round in Barcelona.

The defending champion is now beginning his rehabilitation, and he is confident that his recovery will not take too long.
But after yet another serious crash and injury, many are concerned that this is one too many for Marquez and that he could walk away from the sport at the end of 2026.

Ducati privately says Marc Marquez is ‘committed’ until 2028 after successful surgery
The Ducati rider’s contract expires in 2026, but it is widely believed that Marquez has signed a contract with the team until the end of 2028. This has not been officially confirmed, but Ducati’s communications team seemed to privately assure that that is the case.
Following his crash at Le Mans, many are wondering if the Spaniard will retire in 2026. But as journalist Neil Morrison said via the Paddock Pass Podcast, Ducati are insisting that Marquez is committed until 2028.
Do you think Marc Marquez’s latest injury could see him retire at the end of 2026?
“We did bring this up to a member of the Ducati communications team yesterday, came up to sort of answer any questions that we had about his operation,” he said.
“And I did ask this question to them. Are you a little bit concerned that maybe Marc might just think this is one recovery too many after all he’s been through?
“And they said, ‘Well, he signed for two more years. He’s committed to 2027 and 2028, and the attitude that he was given off, according to them, was one of just like, ‘Right, let’s just come back from this and let’s get to it.”

Will Marc Marquez be free to leave Ducati in 2027?
The consensus is that Marquez has signed with Ducati until 2028. It is reported that he put pen to paper on the deal back in February around the Sepang test.
However, the circumstances of the deal are disputed, as Marquez has openly admitted that he was doubtful about signing a two-year deal due to his injuries.
He wants to try the new 850cc bikes next year, but ‘many believe’ Marquez is free to leave Ducati in 2027. He could have signed a one-year deal, with the option of another, depending on his physical condition.
